Department Overview

Grid Integration and Innovation’s (GII’s) mission is to design, test, and integrate innovative solutions to accelerate PG&E’s transition to the sustainable grid of the future. GII is also responsible for developing the regulatory framework that will enable PG&E to succeed in a future where distributed energy resources are deeply integrated into the electricity grid.

Position Summary

Contribute to PG&E’s clean transportation strategy development and execution both internally and externally. Support ongoing strategy development for a multi-fuel transportation strategy. Provide cross-functional support in executing clean transportation strategy across multiple departments – Electric Operations, Customer, Transportation Services, and Gas Operations - to ensure successful and consistent strategy execution that is aligned with longer term goals. Represent PG&E as part of external forums and working groups. As needed, lead and/or support pilot project development and execution.

Job Responsibilities

  • Builds upon existing and develops new strategies where needed to continue to accelerate PG&E’s multi-fuel Clean Transportation strategy, including electric, natural gas and hydrogen.

  • Provides cross-functional support in executing and coordinating strategy across multiple departments – Electric Operations, Customer, Transportation Services, and Gas Operations - to ensure successful and consistent strategy execution that is aligned with longer term goals. Establishes and maintains relationships with key business partners.

  • Represents PG&E as part of external forums and working groups, and uses these forums and relationships to accelerate the development and execution of our clean transportation strategy

  • Supports the development of projects, programs and other activities to accelerate adoption of clean fuel vehicles in PG&E’s service area. Includes developing project workplans, managing cross-functional issues, and executing on time and on budget.

  • Formulates strategies and policies related to EV charging station standards and vehicle to grid integration activities.

  • Continually applies, and guides others to apply understanding of company goals and strategies to everyday work and tasks.

  • Coaches and mentors less experienced employees.

  • Effectively and persuasively communicates highly complex ideas to diverse audiences using a variety of media.

  • Provides guidance to the team in the process of researching/resolving issues.

  • Maintains open and transparent communication with the leadership team in the line of business, peer managers, and other departments in/outside EPP.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent Experience

  • Job-related experience, 10 years

Desired:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent experience

  • Utility industry experience, or related

  • Strategy experience – either previous consulting or other strategy development work experience

  • Clean transportation work experience, and/or subject matter expertise in one or more high-impact areas within Clean Transportation

  • Policy experience, either regulatory, or legislative at state and/or federal level

  • Competency in qualitative and quantitative strategy, policy and market analyses

  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local regulations and laws - for example CARB, CEC, and CPUC - as needed to perform at the job level

  • Competency in building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives

  • Competency in developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences

  • Competency in providing direction, delegating, and removing obstacles to get work done

  • Knowledge of electric utility operations and business processes as needed

  • Skill in facilitating discussions and meetings as needed

  • Competency in operating effectively, even when things are not certain or the way forward is not clear
