Organization Overview

Emergency Management in PG&E is largely driven by individual lines of business (LOB). Each LOB is responsible for assuring adequate emergency response, providing training for emergency response, and developing processes to assure readiness of the LOB. While each LOB performs this for their specific commodity and/or service, a single department has not been responsible for overall emergency preparedness of the entire Company. The Emergency Preparedness & Response (EP&R) organization is responsible for ensuring the company responds safely and effectively to every type of emergency from a single residential call to a large-scale catastrophic event. Recognizing the key role we have in returning communities back to normal following a disaster, EP&R will help incorporate industry best practices to enhance training between PG&E employees and first responders, plan response and restoration strategies with the communities we serve, and implement the use state-of-art tools and technology in our Emergency Centers.

Position Summary

This position will support the Emergency Preparedness & Response Department and will report to the Business Continuity Manager. The intern will support the EP&R Exercise Planner with logistics of planning multiple company exercises, and tracking action items, the intern will also produce graphs and charts that depict the processes, progress and status of exercise planning. The intern will assist with business continuity planning, and basic processes related to emergency preparedness, and EOC readiness. Intern will manage projects and be responsible for delivering reports to upper management. The position is located in downtown San Francisco at the Company General Office.


  • Develop PowerPoint presentations and project reports for team leads

  • Manage project timelines and deliverables

  • Research Best Practices and Industry Standards as it relates to emergency management, using

  • internet, company intranet, conference calls with utility partners, and interviews when appropriate

  • Assist Manager with preparation for executive leadership meetings

  • Document meeting detail, action items, and next steps for project leads

  • Format documents for inclusion in reports

  • Assist project leads in logistic preparations for work sessions and or meetings

  • May work with vendors to order meals and make travel arrangements for team members


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earning a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Policy, Emergency Management or related field. Students must be continuing their education towards degree during and/or after internship .


  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members

  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction

  • Strong Microsoft Access, Vizio and Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint
