The Fleet Operations Manager will lead the Transportations function for all of Spire’s utility businesses. This function includes providing specific management, leadership and guidance of fleet selection and fleet operation programs that directly affect transportation fleet performance and field operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day to day operations of all garage services internal and external, by establishing, improving, and maintaining critical key performance indicators and fleet metrics and managing vendor relationships

  • Provide general management, direction and development of direct reports, including delegation and prioritization of work assignments, setting quality and professional standards, review and approval of work produced

  • Collaborate with Field Operations to make fleet and scheduling improvements that will limit fleet downtime and result in lower operation and maintenance expenses

  • Management of fleet specification, procurement and interface with various departments to standardize the fleet where applicable, to optimize cost savings and reduce operating expenses

  • Provide input, oversight, and implementation of fleet operation policies and procedures designed to maintain fleet assets and/or improve company transportation compliance

  • Develop and manage garage financial targets and budgets, as well as, measure performance against those targets as the year progresses

  • Interface and work with union officials to solve employee and department issues

  • All other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Yes

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Preferably focused in engineering or business.

  • Professional certification, such as Registered Professional Engineer, Fleet Management, Automotive and Diesel Technology, etc. or equivalent is preferred.

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Five to ten years of experience at applying DOT regulations and managing compliance and remediation programs.

  • Five to ten years of experience with fleet or transportation industry operations and inherent transportation service issues. Experience handling a fleet with a variety of construction assets and/or a utility fleet is preferred.

  • Five years supervising non-union or union subordinates at a line or staff level preferred.

  • Ability to demonstrate the core and job category competencies: customer-focused, results-driven, teamwork, communications, adaptability, initiative, problem solving and quality

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Requires normal physical stamina – works in office, garage, filed environments.

  • Travel expected to cover all of Spire footprint.

  • Participation in on-call rotation is required, which includes off hours and weekends

  • Additional hours per month may be required on occassion
