This Project Management role will serve current CMSE needs associated with its existing electrical generation fleet and new renewables and energy storage projects. The Project Manager should preferably have an engineering or technical project management background and degree with experience in power generation and distribution, renewable energy systems, and general facilities projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage multiple new or retrofit projects individually and supervise the execution of other project managers from initiation to delivery including planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases. Compliance with budget/schedule commitments.
Technical support to CMSE asset/plant managers on new construction, retrofit, plant improvement, and performance/reliability enhancements.
Technical support to CMSE business development team on proposed new renewable/storage projects or similar asset acquisition, including supply of design/procurement/construction insights and strategy.
Participate in CMSE renewable project operations execution, including interface with O&M service providers/contractors, warranty management, testing, environmental/regulatory compliance and other CMSE business groups (e.g., accounting, tax, legal).
Bachelor of Science degree from ABET-accredited program in engineering or technical field; OR equivalent combination of education and experience
4+ years’ experience with an Engineering or Project Management background, including problem solving skills in design and construction of new projects and familiarity of power generation processes (e.g., operations, maintenance)
General understanding of electric power generation from various sources and power transmission and distribution (T&D) from generators to customers
Project management (PM) skills. This includes cost/schedule management and compliance, knowledge of contracts, establishing relationships with contractors and third parties, and use of PM and Microsoft software
Working knowledge of construction site and operating plant safety (e.g., OSHA, NFPA), risk management, quality requirements, and documentation control
Excellent communication skills while Interfacing with third parties including building and regulatory officials, developers, insurance brokers, contractors, owner’s engineers, skilled trades, and others involved in project execution
Basic supervisory skills
Understanding of information (IT) and operations (OT) technology is a plus
Travel and Location
This position will be remote/virtual with ability to travel to project sites until CMSE leadership deems that it is safe to return to an office. At that time, the selected candidate may choose to remain virtual or travel to an assigned office preferably in the state of Michigan.
Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, with occasional site visits to existing CMSE generating assets and periodic visits to new renewable development or similar project sites. Must be able to follow CMSE safety requirements at all times and to communicate with 3rd parties, CMSE asset and plant managers, and other corporate leaders. Ability to safely climb wind turbine towers to nacelle level desired.
