Department Overview

The California External Affairs organization is structured to enhance PG&E's California approach to proactive legislative advocacy, public affairs, charitable giving, political investment activities, and stakeholder engagement with the overall goal of supporting critical priorities around smart energy policy and line of business priorities as the state, regional and local levels.

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director of State Government Relations, this position supports the functions of the State lobbying team and is responsible for ensuring the timeliness of company positions, managing subject matter experts, ensuring timely and relevant bill analysis and managing bill tracking software, and providing public testimony when needed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Tracks legislation, runs reports and maintains accurate and timely information in Capitol Track.

  • Coordinates and manages timely responses from subject matter experts.

  • Schedules meetings as needed with subject matter experts.

  • Schedules meetings in and around the capital, monitors bill hearing schedules and adds them to lobbyists’ calendars.

  • Covers meetings, hearings, and provides testimony when needed.

  • Maintains and updates electronic and paper legislative filing systems.

  • Drafts position papers for lobbyists based on subject matter expert feedback and lobbyist direction.

  • Periodically provides phone coverage and relief for Director’s Assistant

  • Maintains updated rosters of legislative contacts

  • Manages legislative inquiries including data requests and constituents/customers issues

  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience

  • At least 1 year of legislative experience and demonstrated knowledge of the California legislative process.

  • Solid professional communication skills, both oral and written (Must perform a writing test and submit written samples)

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Proficient in MS Office including Outlook and Word.

  • Ability to travel to San Francisco up to 20% of time

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends based on legislative deadlines
