In this job, you’ll be a critical team member on highly complex, sensitive and/or specialized audit engagements that have a major significance to the Company. You will independently lead audits, providing input based on your technical experience to audit management and senior management via an independent assessment of risk, the system of internal controls, reliability of operating information, and compliance with regulatory requirements including applicable laws and the corporate standards of conduct. Based on results of the audit field work auditors develop recommendations for inclusion in audit reports to senior management that strengthen internal controls, enhance compliance, reduce risks, and improve operations.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Executing and conducting audit assignments. Lead assigned audits following a four-phase approach: Planning, Fieldwork, Reporting, and Follow Up.

  • During the audit – use your technical experience to assess risks, develop a work program, prioritize and schedule work activities to support concurrent projects, perform analysis, and document audit results, observations and recommendations. Effectively communicate findings to management, including senior management and executives as needed.

  • May perform audits in other divisions of Audit Services, such as Finance and Contracts and Information Technology.


The essentials

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial), or related field.

  • Seven or more years of experience performing engineering analysis or audits in an operational environment.

  • Experience evaluating processes for implementation, operational effectiveness and efficiency, and compliance with laws and regulations.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification in active status.

  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or similar audit certification(s). If the individual is not currently certified, he or she shall obtain the CPA or CIA certification within 36 months of being hired.

The preferred

  • Master's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field.

  • Six Sigma or similar certifications.

  • Demonstrated experience with data analytics including:

  • Identification of data flows from large Enterprise Resource Planning environments for audit testing.

  • Analysis of complex sets of data using Microsoft Excel functions (including Pivot tables and other formula).

  • Analysis of data using analytics software (ACL, Tableau, PowerBI, etc.).

  • Developing models to support the audit process.

  • Ability to synthesize data into findings and effectively communicate conclusions.

  • Experience with applying regulatory and legislative compliance for utilities (FERC, NERC, CPUC, etc) and General Rate Case proceedings in California.

  • Experience working in an Electric/Gas/Water regulated utility environment.

  • Experience communicating technical concepts to various audiences, including those with a non-technical background, at various levels throughout the company.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills to effectively communicate and interact with personnel at all levels, including executive management, throughout the organization.

  • Experience using strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Effective January 2022, this position’s work mode is Hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.

  • Position will require up to 20% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
