Become a Senior Environmental Specialist at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job you will assist in the Waste Characterization Investigation program which supports SCE’s construction activities through environmental sampling and testing of material reuse and waste removal from multiple facilities and projects to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal waste laws and regulations. You will also support the Asbestos and Lead survey process by scheduling contractors to perform surveying and sampling, processing documentation and help to coordinate business partner growth, assignment, and distribution of work to team members, consultants, and laboratories.

A day in the life-Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright

  • Provide consultation with other SCE organization managers with respect to environmental compliance that guide SCEs long term goals.

  • Provide recommendations and highlight risk regarding intent of environmental laws and regulations to support asbestos, and waste management projects.

  • Act as an environmental subject matter expert on any assigned program/project answering technical and policy related inquiries.


The essentials

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in environmental resource discipline (ex. environmental science, geology)

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in performing waste determinations including hazardous, non-hazardous and PCB waste characterization and disposal requirements

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science, geology, or a related discipline

  • Registered in California as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist

  • Experience interfacing with technical and non-technical audiences including peers, clients, and contractors.

  • Customer focused to understand and respond appropriately to clients’ business needs (i.e. Field Operations).

  • Demonstrated experience working on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Utility industry experience.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Work Mode: Effective January 2022, this position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
