The Network Tools Systems Admin role is to plan, administer, maintain, and automate the networking tools portfolio. As a Network Tools Systems Admin, you support the operations and engineering staff, in addition to other stakeholders up to and including senior IT and business leadership. This portfolio spans the entire SCE Enterprise, for both the Grid and Admin Business infrastructures. The technologies that SCE monitors is dramatically changing from a traditional disparate telecom and data-networking environment, to one of converged capabilities and IT/OT transformation.
Establish network baselines by evaluating network performance including availability, utilization, and latency.
Configure tools to maximize features so we are more proactive and predictive rather than reactive to events.
Maintain and help to manage network performance by performing monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network or tool problems and escalating problems to vendor
Prepare peers and internal and external resources to team by designing and conducting KT sessions providing references and support of various tools.
Oversee the performance of the tools by conferring with vendors; developing, testing and evaluating and installing enhancements to maintain tools current.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to tools configuration, mapping and asset lifecycle.
Participate and plan in tool strategies toward integration of tools, adaption and cost efficiencies when possible.
Day to day responsibilities include identifying new or optimization requirements with various teams; administrating access; ensuring data integrity and updating changes to the monitored infrastructure(s); resolving issues with tools functionality; installing upgrades and/or version changes; develop reporting, dashboards, or other standard views; develop processes, job-aids, or other documentation in support of the portfolio; direct engagement with the vendor(s); and optimizing or simplifying features for monitoring network performance.
Work with colleagues to troubleshoot and resolve complex product issues
Interface with various internal/external organizations to resolve or implement automated product solutions.
Utilizing various tool Knowledge Management database, research & develop technical tips and solutions.
Advise leadership on network management best practices using available products.
Five (5) years’ of experience in Network Operations management including hands on work experience maintaining, configuring, and upgrading Networking devices (routers and switches), wireless, or telecommunications infrastructure.
Three (3) years’ experience with administration and management of various network monitoring and management tools for configuration, performance, packet inspection, etc. This is included but not limited to having at least 2 of the following tools: NetScout, Infoblox/Netmri, CA Technologies - including CA Spectrum, CA Performance Center, Netflow and ADA, Palo Alto Firewalls, MegaSys – Telenium.
Experience with administration and management of tools for the data center infrastructure including VM, server platform and storage.
Working closely with vendors to expedite and resolve operational issue in a network environment.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or other related discipline.
Eight years of Network Operations experience.
CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE certification.
Linux Certification (RHTC minimum).
Python scripting experience.
Project Management Certification a plus (PMP).
Knowledge of Windows and Unix operating system environments. Server Hardware Support Certification a plus.
VMWare Certification a plus.
Ability to write technical articles outlining problems resolution and troubleshooting steps (contribute knowledge to the knowledge base).
Ability to multi-task with strong attention to details.
