A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Apply standard project management methodologies, conduct project planning and manage project performance to meet business objectives.

  • Act as a strategic thought partner and senior consultant for executives, and business unit leaders in evaluating the value of capital investments.

  • Develop project execution plans to define scope and establish baseline schedule and budget.

  • Lead the development of project documentation including execution plans, change requests, performance specifications and communications (presentations or other).

  • Collaborate with the project controls team to continuously update project progress (primarily budget and schedule) for proper performance monitoring and reporting.

  • Lead the coordination between project engineers, operations and field quality managers for the successful execution of projects.

  • Lead the construction phase of projects by managing external contractors and third-party service providers.

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to peers, management and cross-functional teams in implementing project management practices or processes.

  • Manage a portfolio of projects through-out the entire project management life cycle.

  • Support value engineering efforts to improve the cost effectiveness of major projects.

  • Collaborate with project sponsors and Generation’s asset management team to evaluate the cost-benefit of projects, establish an initial cost / schedule and gain management approval.

Qualifications

The Essentials

  • Seven years of project management experience participating in and/or in leading major construction or engineering projects through their entire life cycle (inception, licensing, implementation and close-out).

  • Two years of experience defining project scope of work for each stage of a project (concept, licensing, disposition of existing assets, execution and operations turn-over).

  • One year of experience working on generation projects.

  • Two years of experience defining and communicating business drivers, risks, costs, and schedules.

The Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering, Business Administration or related field.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills to interface with all levels of employees including senior management, executives and regulatory agencies.

  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies, forest management organizations, internal and external decision makers.

  • Lean Six Sigma (or similar) certification at a Black-Belt Lean Master level from a recognized company or institution.

  • Experience in the electric utility industry specifically power generation (including hydro electric and gas fired plants) preferred.

  • Five years of experience with lump sum EPC contracting.

  • Demonstrated experience in utility project licensing in California including environmental permitting and monitoring.
