Position Overview

This Advisor position works in the IT Enterprise Architecture Planning & Strategy group in the area of Field Services. This individual collaborates with Operating Units to identify technology demand derived from business goals and strategies pertaining to Field Service capabilities. Provides project management and coordination of the business initiative planning process by engaging and consulting with clients and analyzing business needs. Provides pro-active advice to OUs on IT services and technologies by delivering clear, relevant, and timely communications to clients. Supports the development, evaluation, and publication of IT initiative planning and related services within an OU.

Takes responsibility for handling the development, implementation, and coordination of all technology planning activities by guiding the following activities; business capability planning, requirements solicitation, business case development, process analysis and solution planning. Provides project management and direction to a cross functional team throughout planning processes. Able to manage budget and schedule in order to maintain a broad view of the business and technology outcomes and how an individual initiative delivers those outcomes. May establish goals, negotiates, and develops capability roadmaps and project plans. Assists with identifying demand conflicts and recommending escalation of conflicts where appropriate. Primary leader for the business capability and technology planning activities they are supporting. Oversees and focuses on supporting: Business Relationship Management, Business Impact Management, Business and IT Strategic Alignment and Planning, Portfolio management and optimization, Investment case development, and portfolio risk and value optimization, Demand Management, and Requirements Management.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Supports activities to align business strategies with IT strategies and helps develop the IT strategic initiatives roadmap.

  • Supports the development of activities of the operating unit/portfolio business capabilities and translates new business needs into business cases.

  • Defines multiple options to introduce or mature business capabilities and understands the financial impact of solution architecture alternatives.

  • Facilitates business case development activities to translate business needs from operating plans into a technology initiatives.

  • Partners with cross functional IT and OU team to evaluate and mature initiative plans.

  • Leads demand planning and approval activities through IT and Corporate Governance processes.

  • Works with the OU stakeholders and sponsors to set well defined business outcomes and objectives.

  • Ensures alignment to strategic objectives through tracking and developing of reports covering financials, time spent on work activities, budget, and overall performance.

  • Implements best practices in product management, project management, optimization, and reporting.

  • Supports demand management and business impact management activities for understanding, anticipating, and influencing client demand for services and support of solutions to escalated demand management client concerns.

  • Works with capacity management to ensure that IT has sufficient capacity to meet the required demand.

  • Prioritizes across the enterprise to ensure highest valued investments are sourced and completed.

  • Works effectively with cross functional IT and OU teams to make decisions and influence project direction.

  • Consults with and drives organizational unit participation to accomplish initiative planning activities on schedule and within budget and to achieve objectives.

  • Assists with documentation of the justification of proposed IT projects in terms of their overall benefits to the business, costs, strategic alignment and risk.

  • Provides thought leadership in recommending strategic options and strategy formation.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 7 years of experience supporting projects or key business initiatives.

  • 2 years of experience developing technology strategies and roadmaps.

  • Experience working with end-users to develop business, functional, and technical requirements.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Computing Information Systems, Computer Science, or relevant technical discipline.

  • 7 years of experience working in Information Technology for an electric utility.

  • 3 years of experience leading projects or key business initiatives.

  • 2 years of IT portfolio and customer relationship management experience for an electric utility.

  • Experience performing IT portfolio and customer relationship management.

  • Experience developing strategic technology plans in support of key business objectives.

  • Communications skills – demonstrated experience developing and delivering presentations to all levels of staff including management and executive leadership

  • Matrix management – ability to achieve desired actions and outcomes through negotiation and influence.

  • Able to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers, channel partners, specialized service Providers, managed service Providers, and other similar constituencies to articulate and transfer relationship needs/requirements into actionable tasks and outputs.
