Job Summary

Location: River Rouge, MI

The Maintenance Technician position is located at the EES Coke Battery on Zug Island in River Rouge, MI. The Coke Battery is a plant that produces coke from various types of coal blends and is then used as fuel in the blast furnaces at the steel mill.

The hourly rate is $34.09 plus $0.30 extra per hour for shift work. The job also included health, dental, vision, and prescription insurance starting day one of employment. We are currently offering a signing bonus of $2,500 paid after completing the probationary period of 1,040 hours worked. This position also receives quarterly bonuses of up to $7,500 per year, based on EES Coke Battery's quality and production.

The work environment is heavy industrial and requires wearing fire retardant clothing, steel toed boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and a respirator (when required in specific area). The Coke Battery is an outside plant that may require working in high areas, at times, exposure to all types of weather conditions including heat up to 130 degrees in the summer months. The position requires you to possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Key Accountabilities

Performs all maintenance functions necessary to maintain all operating and service equipment using standard and specialized tools and equipment including mobile equipment as required. Operated equipment in conjunction with repairs and provides assistance in operating functions as necessary to maintain continuity of operations. May work alone, with minimal supervision or with other Maintenance Technicians and coordinates and works in conjunction with operating team members in the performance of maintenance tasks.

  • Maintains various types of machinery in the coke making process

  • Responsible for participating in safety activities to meet or exceed organizational goals and expectations

  • Maintains interpersonal relationships with individuals both external and internal to the organization

  • Be an active participant of developing and maintaining a culture of professionalism

  • Responsible for following all rules, policies, or expectations

  • Responsible for environmental compliance

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Valid driver's license

  • 3 years of heavy industrial experience to provide the following:

  • Must have experience maintaining and repairing Material Handling equipment such as sizing screeners and conveyor belts.

  • Must have experience maintaining and repairing various types of process pumps.

  • Must be proficient in the following skills: stick welding - all positions, 7018 and 6010, riggings, hydraulics, pipefitting, layout and fabrication from prints, oxy/acetylene torch burning and coupling alignment.

  • Strong safety experience

  • Ability to work in a team orientated atmosphere.

  • Demonstrated capability to achieve results through people, technology and processing equipment.

  • Good knowledge of the assigned area(s) of responsibility

  • Ability to function within a matrix organization where employees report to both a functional leader and a business leader.

  • Must be goal oriented.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, coworkers, and management.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

  • Sit, stand, or walk for a minimum of 8-hour shifts, including walking long distances, up and down stairs and on uneven ground

  • Frequently lift objects of up to 70 pounds in weight, and carry objects of up to 50 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to push or pull objects of up to 100 pounds in weight

  • Frequently climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or occasionally, crawl. Enter and work in confined space areas

  • Talk & hear; use hands & fingers; handle & feel; and able to reach with hands and arms extensively

  • Frequent operations of controls with occasional driving and fine hand function manipulations of tools and equipment

  • Vision requirements for this position include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme heat and cold. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or machinery and burns. Occasionally exposed to vibration and fumes or airborne particles which will require the use of personal protective equipment including respirators; flame retardant clothing; self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), etc. Exposed to protected and unprotected heights, which requires the use of a personal fall protection system (harness/lifeline). The noise level in the work environment may occasionally go above the threshold, requiring PPE.
