MasTec Utility Services Gas General Foreman in Richmond, Virginia


The Gas Foreman leads the crew to complete daily tasks related to the installation and repair of natural gas pipelines and/or joint trench utilities for power and telephone in a safe and correct manner. The position is in charge of ensuring crew safety and productivity, installing and pressure testing both mainline and service line gas pipe, as well as completing routine safety inspections and documentation. This position oversees the Line team and works with customers, senior management, and personnel from other departments.


  1. Oversee and coordinate crew work toinstall natural gas pipelines via open-cut or directional drill methods.

  2. Obtainall necessary licenses, permits, and materials for each job.

  3. Oversee,accomplish, and ensure all work quality related to each project and assumefull responsibility for its standard and timeliness.

  4. Coordinateand delegate daily tasks to crew members related to digging and placingproduct.

  5. Gainentry to site buildings for work crew and call in utilities located ateach project site.

  6. Facilitatedaily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections to ensure the crews worksafely.

  7. Completeall paperwork in a timely manner.

  8. Trainnew hires and trainees to learn the trade.

  9. Trackemployee hours and submit for payroll on a timely basis.

  10. Callin utilities located at each project site.

  11. Inspectexisting utilities are properly identified and exposed, to ensure pipingis correctly installed and fused, job meets customer specifications, andit meets company quality standards.

  12. Drive,haul, and/or operate equipment to/from job sites to assist crews incompletion of work.

  13. Keepthe job(s) moving on time, clean up, and perform job restoration at theend of job.

  14. Communicatewith customers and inspectors.

  15. Perform other duties as required and/orassigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. A High School Degree, or equivalent.

  2. 3 years of experience with gas pipeline construction ormaintenance, with 2 years of supervisory experience.

  3. Proficiency in fusing,tapping, pressure testing, and purging.

  4. CDLClass A license.

  5. OSHA10 Certification.

  6. Knowledgeof gas and how to safely work around it.

  7. Knowledgeof customer’s specifications, being able to read and interpret prints.

  8. Proficiencyin all phases of line construction.

  9. Compliancewith proper safety standards, procedures, and work practices according toMasTec and/or project customer, whichever standard is higher.

  10. Abilityto talk with customers’ inspectors and have a sense of customer service.

  11. Experience in operatingheavy equipment and general construction.

  12. Ability to visuallyinspect fusion or welded joints, spot utilities, and locate marks on the groundby color.

  13. Clarity of vision at 20feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance andspace relationships.

  14. Precise hand-eyecoordination.

  15. Ability to identify anddistinguish colors.

  16. Ability to work outdoors, even in extremeweather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. 5 or more years of experience, with prior staff supervisoryresponsibility.

  2. Pipe Fusioncertifications.

  3. OQ-Operator Qualified.

  4. DOT Certified Flagger.

  5. Excavatortraining.

  6. First Aid and CPR certification.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, twisting, reaching above shoulder level, working in confined spaces, working off a pole or in a bucket. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind for 10 hour work days, with breaks. During storms this role will work in these conditions from 10 to 15 hours daily, breaks included.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
