General Summary

Provide a high level of technical health physics expertise and oversight to address the varied operational and licensing tasks which periodically arise in the safe and efficient operation of the plant. Work independently and with no direct supervision to perform research, investigations, analyses, evaluations, and reviews of radiation protection activities, programs, and procedures. Develop plans and procedures to effectively implement recommended actions. Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to lower level HP Staff Advisors, Specialists, and Technicians. Support the Columbia Generating Station Emergency Plan by performing drill and exercise, on call, training, and qualification activities when required.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Provide a high level of technical health physics expertise and oversight to address the varied operational and licensing tasks which periodically arise in such areas as radiation exposure monitoring, radiological control, respiratory protection, and dose reduction.

• Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to lower level HP staff members, and consult with management to plan, develop, and implement strategic objectives.

• Develop, maintain, and implement radiation protection programs, policies, and procedures consistent with company policies and objectives.

• Perform reviews and evaluations of department activities, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations, standards, and recommendations. Identify, recommend, and implement corrective actions as needed.

• Analyze and evaluate radiation protection performance data and station exposure data to determine radiation protection program effectiveness.

• Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Level II: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering subject from an accredited college or university and three years’ experience in applied radiological;

OR an Associate’s degree in a technical field from an accredited college or university and an additional five years of experience in applied radiation protection;

OR four years of military nuclear experience and an additional three years of experience in applied radiation protection;

OR nine years of experience in applied radiation protection. At least three years of this experience should be in applied radiation protection work in a nuclear facility dealing with radiological problems similar to those encountered in nuclear power plants, preferably in a nuclear power plant.

Level III: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering subject from an accredited college or university and five years’ experience in applied radiological;

OR an Associate’s degree in a technical field from an accredited college or university and an additional seven years of experience in applied radiation protection;

OR four years of military nuclear experience and an additional five years of experience in applied radiation protection;

OR nine years of experience in applied radiation protection. At least three years of this experience should be in applied radiation protection work in a nuclear facility dealing with radiological problems similar to those encountered in nuclear power plants, preferably in a nuclear power plant.

A high school diploma or GED is required for all items listed above.

PREFERRED SKILLSET

-calibration and maintenance of radiation protection instrumentation

Salary Range

Level II Salary: $36.56 per hour minimum to $45.71 per hour midpoint

Level III Salary: $42.05 per hour minimum to $52.57 per hour midpoint

Typically, selected candidates are hired at a salary rate between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience and qualifications, market rate, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.
