Become a Civil Road Construction Inspector at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll ensure that construction performed by contractors on behalf of SCE is done to SCE standards, specifications, and processes while meeting all environmental, federal, state, and local government requirements. Provide recommendations to construction crews to mitigate construction delays and help keep projects on schedule and budget. A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Plans, conducts, and documents inspections of all safety-related and non-safety related installation, repair, and maintenance work related to the construction, operation, modification, design change.

  • Lead all aspects of accurate equipment procurement, and material acquisition at Company or supplier facilities.

  • Assesses work performance and adherence to QC programs, federal, state, industry codes and requirements and company rules and regulations. Provides analysis, identifies anomalies, and provides corrective recommendations.

  • Reviews approved plans, permitting, and environmental requirements. Ensures SCE assets are built to SCE specifications per design and/or civil engineering.

  • Identifies, evaluates, and documents discrepancies and non-conformance, hazardous conditions, safety deficiencies, violations, and unsafe work practices. Provides recommendations for corrective action.

  • May act as lead on projects, providing direction, scheduling, and technical guidance for quality related activities supporting the compliance and reliability of Transmission operations.

  • Prepares and delivers reports to subordinates, peers, and/or management.


The essentials

  • Five or more years of experience performing civil inspections, civil construction, civil engineering, or roadway construction.

  • Valid CA Driver's License.

The preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, physical sciences, or related technical field.

  • Experience with construction plans, environmental and permit requirements.

  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Experience with ArcGIS programs/systems.

  • Experience with safe work practices, basic electrical theory, construction/maintenance standards (i.e., GO95 and GO128).

  • Experience evaluating the efficiency of projects, including supervising progress, reporting on status, and implementing changes.

  • Coordinating activities between the Company and contractors, including assigning work, monitoring projects, and reviewing field dailies for accuracy.

  • Experience documenting installed facilities locations on as-built drawings and preparing supporting documentation.

  • Relocation does not apply to this position.

  • Position will require up to 75% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.


  • This position requires testing and applicants who are identified to continue through the selection process will be invited to test via email. Candidates who have previously passed these assessment(s), in some cases, may not need to retest again for this position.
