Engineer II

In search of a high energy, motivated engineer to join the Transmission Substation Engineering Unit at Duke Energy Progress in Raleigh, NC. For power transmission facilities of 69 kV through 500 kV, responsibilities include: 1) developing engineered design packages suitable for construction or modification of electric power substations; 2) performing or obtaining structural analyses of components used in the substation; 3) performing or obtaining foundation analyses; 4) performing or obtaining grounding studies to ensure adequate ground grid design; 5) developing and maintaining sufficient level of expertise in use of CADD software for the efficient production of engineering plans; and 6) ensuring that the substation facility meets all applicable safety and environmental regulations, including storm water and Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) requirements.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET or equivalently accredited school. Has knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures of a particular field of specialization. B.S. Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering preferred.

The position is responsible for producing: 1) the best possible design for transmission substation facilities considering all environmental, land use, engineering and economic factors and in accordance with the approved schedule; 2) plans, coordination, and monitoring the progress and quality of work group activities on assigned projects to meet the requirements of the Project Managers; 3) specific project information for various planning studies, the annual budget, and special projects; 4) work assignments in a manner consistent with both the Duke Energy Safety Handbook as well as with Federal, State, and local laws; 5) all project activities and work activities in a sound and cost-effective manner that contributes to the safety of Company employees and the public, reliability of service, and reasonable protection of the environment.

Basic/Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Engineering obtained from an ABET accredited program, OR a Master’s degree in Engineering in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering

Minimum of two (2) years of engineering experience

Desired Qualifications

Three to five years related experience.
