The Equipment Engineering Transformer Engineer is responsible for transformers and regulators in the following areas: design specifications that take into reliability, maintenance, cost, industry standards, and regulatory requirements; the evaluation and development of plans to address service bulletins; design support in regards to replacement parts such as bushings, substation engineering and equipment specification support, and support to the field maintenance organizations. The transformer engineer is responsible for performing factory evaluations, coordinating factory testing of transformers, and reviewing or coordinating transformer designs. This is to ensure that transmission assets are purchased and maintained to minimize costs while maximizing reliability.
The primary skill set and knowledge base for the Transformer Engineer will be in the areas of design, manufacturing, performance, operation, and specifications for the transformer and regulator class of asset. The secondary skill set and knowledge base is a good understanding of all other transmission substation and line components.
Job Related Skills requirements include good verbal and written communications skills and a good working knowledge of Windows based computer applications; the ability to work independently on tasks/projects with limited supervision, with guidance only on unusual or complex projects or issues; and the ability to identify problems and possible solutions and take appropriate action for resolution.
Bachelor of Science in Engineering obtained from an ABET accredited program, OR a Master’s degree in Engineering in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering will be considered.
Five (5) years of experience
State registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
Background in transmission equipment and design.
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds,
Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in principles of project management
Experience in the utility industry
- A strong knowledge of transformer design, oil analysis, electrical systems, and engineering fundamentals is essential.
