Public Relations & Communications Intern

Academic and Trade Qualifications:

Undergraduate or graduate college student studying communications, public relations, media, journalism or a related field.

Experience:

  • Knowledge of public relations, strong writing ability and communications skillset.

  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in competing timelines.

  • Ability to think creatively to tell the cooperative story in fresh, new ways.

    Job Responsibilities:

  • Help tell the cooperative story by researching electric co-op initiatives throughout the state and developing creative ways to promote them through public relations, communications, written and digital media efforts.

  • Assist with creating materials for cooperative use in communicating with members, including writing articles, news releases, media alerts and other materials.

  • Support organization’s website and social media presence, including developing content and making recommendations based on data and feedback received from members. Update and maintain media distribution system and reporter contact information. Other communications responsibilities as needed.

    Job Knowledge:

    The intern will gain valuable experience in public relations, corporate communications, media engagement, professional writing, electric co-ops, trade associations and the energy industry.

    Abilities and Skills:

  • Excitement to work collaboratively with internal and external contacts.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms.

  • Understanding of basic design principles.
