Rhode Island Energy is seeking a Regional Engineering Manager in Providence, RI.

Job Purpose

As a Regional Engineering Manager, you will supervise and manage an engineering department comprised of distribution field engineering, substation engineering, transmission system engineering, and streetlight asset sales within the RIE service territory. This position will be responsible for ensuring that company reliability targets and spending forecasts are met, promote standardization between PPL Operating Companies, and progressing new initiatives within the appropriate engineering team.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Work with other departments on cross-functional technical and business teams, working groups or improvement committees to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and/or Company.

  • Supervise and manage multiple engineering disciplines and ensure activities are appropriately prioritized to meet internal and external expectations.

  • Review departmental needs and build/develop expertise where appropriate. Assures that training that will facilitate development is made available to the staff.

  • Work with other departments (within RIE and other PPL Operating Companies) to ensure roles and responsibilities are clear and aligned with the Company goals.

  • Review existing engineering standards and work with other PPL Operating Companies to standardize where appropriate.

  • Develop and implement changes in methods and processes in the engineering group that support department objectives of service to customers, reliability, or cost effectiveness.

  • Analyze technical and business plans, design proposals, projects or strategies and provide results and/or recommendations in support of department objectives. Develops budgets and forecasts.

  • Conduct performance assessments and salary reviews for engineers within the Regional Engineering department.

  • Develop and reinforce a strong safety culture within the department.

  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with customers, contractors, municipalities, and field operations staff to ensure that all work meets expectations.

  • If applicable, in-person supervision of employees to ensure compliance with FLSA wage and hour issues as well as to monitor compliance with safety rules.

  • May be assigned a Rhode Island Energy emergency storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.

  • The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.

Qualifications

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates must meet the basic qualifications and pass all required tests or assessments to receive consideration.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility form upon hire.

Basic Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering.

  2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in distribution/transmission.

  3. Valid driver’s license.

  4. Organizational, communication and people skills.

  5. Strong customer and reliability focus.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, or advanced degree.

  2. More than five (5) years of field design and construction experience.

  3. Project management skills.

  4. Knowledge and understanding of the RIE business plan (capital and expense components as well as specific job skills related to distribution and transmission) plan.

  5. Five years supervisory experience.

  6. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  7. Ability to lead and work well with individuals at all levels internal and external to RIE.

  8. Strong decision-making skills.
