National Grid Providence Innovation Hub Year-Round Intern (Part-time) in Providence, Rhode Island
The National Grid Energy Innovation Hub is a collaborative, community engagement destination designed to elevate the conversation around the future of energy and the environment. The ‘Hub’ will offer an interactive experience where visitors learn how they can take action towards creating a clean energy future. Exhibits will include information about energy efficiency, ways to reduce energy consumption and new smart technologies.
COVID-19 update: The Hub has been physically closed since mid-March 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic. However, we have been continuing operations in a virtual setting. The Hub experience will likely become a hybrid of virtual and normal operations in the Spring of 2021. Thus, interns will be able to work both physically and virtually. We will continue to monitor the pandemic closely during the internship duration and if necessary, pull back to an all virtual experience.
The ‘Hub’ interns will be a group of trained and qualified students, acting as brand ambassadors for National Grid. They will be dedicated to supporting the National Grid customer experience at the ‘Hub’ by interfacing directly with all visitors, including members of the public, National Grid customers, local businesses, students, community organizations and internal stakeholders, as well as helping to promote and socialize the ‘Hub’ internally and externally.
Including, but not limited to:
Staff ‘Hub’ during assigned part-time shift
Address all visitors in a professional and customer-focused manner
Conduct ‘Hub’ tours for members of the public, National Grid customers, local businesses, students, community organizations and internal stakeholders
Answer visitor questions and refer any escalated concerns to the ‘Hub’ Manager or appropriate National Grid contact
Assist visitors with use of energy efficiency products (i.e. programmable thermostats, appliances) located within the ‘Hub’
Support events at the ‘Hub’ and within local communities to promote energy efficiency and sustainability
Create and facilitate online learning experiences for internal and external stakeholders
Lead projects to assist in ‘Hub’ operations, including promoting and socializing the ‘Hub’ through dedicated social media channels, e-newsletters and developing PowerPoint presentations and other content to support the education, and growth of the ‘Hub’ and National Grid’s business
Assist in the development of marketing collateral to aid in the promotion and sale of energy efficiency products and services
Attend all energy efficiency training and related program updates
Must maintain the following academic standing for the entire duration of the assignment
GPA 3.2 minimum for Graduate Students
GPA 3.0 minimum for Undergraduate Students
Achieved Sophomore level at minimum
At least 18 years of age
Working toward a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Business, Marketing, Energy, Environment, Communications, or related field
High level of Hub/office technology proficiency preferred
Excellent English communication proficiency (Spanish/Chinese/Vietnamese a plus)
Proficient in relevant software e.g. Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Proficient in Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
Outstanding judgment and professional demeanor
Interest in energy and sustainability
