General Purpose

Provides expertise in a specialized field. Acts as a resource to generalist personnel to investigate and resolve problem situations or complex issues. Researches, analyzes, develops and implements new programs, systems and/or processes in response to changing internal and external conditions. Develops and maintains operational and procedural documentation.

Responsibilities of this position include the following:

  • Prepare drawings and plans to support new capital work.

  • Assist in design utilizing standards to update existing plan and profile drawings.

  • Prepare plans, material lists and drawings for both capital and maintenance work.

  • Prepare as-built drawings for emergency work and designs performed by third parties.

  • Assist with PLS-CAD designs by others and prepare drawing for entry into electronic drawing management system.

  • Provide alternatives and recommendations to internal and external customers.

In addition to the above, the Sr level responsibilities include the following:

  • Create and develop detailed and complex designs that are ready for construction.

  • Interpret field mark-ups and engineering drawings per detailed drawings from engineering and department standards/guidelines.

  • Design utilizing standards to update existing plan and profile drawings.

  • Train, monitor, and provide guidance to less experienced drafters.

  • Perform technical and complex engineering-related assignments.

  • Resolve internal and external customer issues which may be critical, sensitive, complex, or urgent in nature.

Requirements for this position include the following:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • A minimum of two years of related experience.

  • Knowledge of engineering specifications and drawings, established drafting and design techniques

  • Design skills involving redesign and development of detailed drawings from engineering guidelines.

  • Knowledge of current technologies, tools, systems, and vendors.

  • Understanding of company policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Ability to effectively translate technical jargon into layman’s terms.

  • Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult and resolve internal and external customer issues.

  • Ability to work with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to work as a member of a team.

In addition to the above, the Sr level requirements include the following:

  • A minimum of three years of related experience.

  • General EDMS knowledge.

  • Assessment skills including problem diagnosis and identification of proper methods and techniques to resolve and prevent future problems.

  • Model structures in PLS-CAD.

  • Previous utility design experience in poles and wires, and field experience in line construction.


  • Experience with modeling structures in PLS-CAD.

  • Experience with AutoCAD 2020 and AutoCAD Raster Design 2020.

  • General EDMS knowledge.

  • Experience with and understanding of electrical one lines, schematics, panel schedules, etc.
