The Director, Long Term Origination will be responsible for leading the sales team and drive the business growth for utility scale renewable projects including the development of opportunities for battery storage. In addition to the direct management of the long-term origination team in the western US, this position will be responsible for coordinating with the west team in managing all requests for proposals across all US markets and the analyst team responsible for coordinating the responses for the entire renewable group. Additionally, this position will be responsible for implementing the growth strategy by developing new and existing customer relationships, proposing and structuring customized renewable solutions, and will have direct responsibility for the negotiation of all power purchase agreements (PPAs) executed by the west team. This position would be located in Portland- OR or regional reporting to the VP of Renewable Strategy and Origination and will include considerable travel.


  • Demonstrate leadership and the ability to coordinate project teams consisting of sales and marketing, construction and engineering, structuring, legal, policy and finance.

  • Manage and lead team of professionals in prospecting for new PPA opportunities, coordinate internal support necessary for developing the key inputs required for profitable pricing.

  • Build and maintain high-level relationships with electric utility executives and corporate energy buyers and other key personnel of targeted clients in assigned region. Expand the pipeline of sales opportunities by generating high quality leads.

  • Assess and translate market competition, industry trends, emerging customer challenges and changes in the marketplace into market strategies and product offerings. Develop tactical execution plans for target clients.

  • Responsible for negotiating and coordinating the delivery of products and services with suppliers, end-use customers and transmission providers. Lead the internal team through all aspects of a complex sales process to successful closing.

  • Ability to create and participate in a team atmosphere by collaborating with internal departments including Development, Construction Services, Operations, Energy Management, Asset Management, Credit and Legal in support of sales process.

  • Collaborate with policy/regulatory and Market Structure groups to identify and develop new market opportunities and craft value propositions to serve target market and/or customers. Furthermore, provide regulatory support on issues impacting market area.

Skills and Requirements

Minimum Required Qualifications | Education:Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Finance, Business or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 10 + years’ experience in the energy industry, ideally in renewable energy origination and sales.Experience in complex selling, introducing new product and service offerings, and developing corresponding value propositions. $100-$500M + of successful PPA executions Demonstrated knowledge of renewable energy markets and power market design. Skills and QualificationsStrong leadership and strategic skills with an ability to balance and prioritize competing interests.Demonstrated ability to develop new business relationships quickly and to close business opportunitiesDemonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing and interfacing effectively with cross-functional internal groups of all levels and competencies.Ability to perform and interpret financial analysis and provide appropriate data and informationExcellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.Excellent interpersonal and time management skillsEntrepreneurial, self-starter with a desire to learn and win Preference to candidates with the following:MBA -Extensive portfolio of industry contacts.Knowledge and understanding of developing renewable energy generating facilities, in solar, wind, thermal application, and the marketing/origination
