Alliant Energy Line Technician in Portage, Wisconsin
Sets, guys and frames poles, towers and other structures.
Installs, splices and secures conductors.
Installs and maintains transformers, conductors, regulators, breakers, switches, fuses, street lighting equipment, lightning arrestors, etc.; (overhead and underground).
Works on energized lines and equipment.
Works with live line maintenance tools.
Keeps informed on and abides by the required Safety Rules, Operating Practices and codes pertaining to all phases of line work.
Maintains proper line clearances.
May lead and assist in training others in the same or lower classifications.
Performs other duties which are similar, related or incidental to this position.

Alliant Energy is looking for a Line Technician to serve the Portage, WI district and support neighboring rural communities. Our District crews play a critical role in providing consistent, reliable service to homes and businesses within our territory.

The core schedule for this position is Monday- Friday (7:00am- 3:30pm) and is responsible for taking after-hours emergency calls, responding to outages and trouble calls on the distribution system and customer services. As an emergency responder, the selected candidate will be required to live or relocate within 20 minutes of the Portage office.

Job Category:Line Maintenance/Technician Job Qualifications:
Successful completion of line technician apprenticeship; satisfactory passage of line technician examination.
Demonstrated ability to do ordinary line construction, operating and maintenance work, line trouble shooting and transformer installation including three-phase and parallel banking.
Reasonable knowledge of work order procedure and allocation of charges.
Knowledge of the requirements of the State Electrical Code and company standards for line construction.
Familiarity with live line maintenance tools and their use.
Thorough knowledge of the Company Safety Rules and Operating Practices relating to line construction and maintenance.
Ability to write clearly and concisely, make understandable diagrams, ability to express oneself orally.
Good reading comprehension, mathematics skills.
Possession of a valid driver's license; ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License prior to the end of trial period.
Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
Sensitivity to public opinion and property owner's rights.
Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group.
This position is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug/alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40 and 382), and is subject to drug/alcohol testing according to said regulations.
