About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organization (T&D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview

The Sr. Business Planning Advisor (T&D IT Portfolio) position will optimize and prioritize its Transmission & Distribution technology investments to ensure Edison performs the right work at the right time by developing and managing the T&D Technology Portfolio Roadmap and ensuring its alignment with Edison’s Strategic Objectives. The Senior Advisor will be responsible for the development of a sustainable process which will include the initiation, analysis and prioritization of all T&D Technology Initiatives. This will be accomplished by creating a collaborative partnership between T&D Stakeholders and the Information Technology Organization.

The establishment of an integrated T&D Technology Roadmap will create visibility to all T&D Technology initiatives and demands across the enterprise. This increased visibility will improve collaboration across business lines and enable the enterprise to eliminate duplication of efforts and maximize the savings/benefits of the individual initiatives. This new process, facilitated by the Senior Advisor, will evaluate current business capabilities, target maturity levels and emerging technology trends against the T&D Technology Roadmap and recommend course corrections as appropriate. This process will also include a means in which to ensure high priority projects are made “shovel ready,” to leverage available capital and facilitate implementation. This process will also include a post implementation review of IT Capital projects to ensure the benefits and savings documented in the investment memo are recognized.

This position will report directly to the Senior Manager of the Work Management Long Range Scheduling group within the Asset Management & Operations Support (AM&OS) organization.

Typical Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain an integrated five-year T&D IT Roadmap and ensures that emerging business needs and technologies are incorporated. Additional responsibilities will include frequent communications with all levels of the organization to ensure an enterprise understanding of the T&D IT Roadmap. Socialize roadmap and implications across T&D and ensure their alignment with the SIPP.

  • Develop and administer a process in which IT projects are initiated in a consistent manner and prioritized based on business need, corporate strategic direction and savings benefits analysis. The Senior Advisor will present the prioritized IT Roadmap to forums such as the Technical Review Committee (TRC) for final approval at least annually.

  • Establish and facilitate a process to ensure projects are “shovel ready.” This should apply to funded projects as well as several below the line projects in the event of a capital on-ramp.

  • Conduct business capability planning by assessing current business capabilities and establishing target maturity levels. Identify dependencies across operational units to maximize the benefit of deployed IT solutions.

  • Perform project management functions associated with implementation of high visibility special projects that have a major financial or operational impact to the OU or Company by developing and implementing project plans and change management plans. Responsible for stabilization of implemented solution, and transition to steady-state, repeatable operations.

  • Interact with cross-functional organizations and various levels of management, including senior and executive leadership, involving strategy and broad technical and operational issues. Responsible for stakeholder engagement and alignment and to negotiate outcomes with stakeholder organizations to secure acceptance of proposed solutions or to improve upon ideas by including this input.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering, Business, Information Technology or related field

  • 5+ years’ experience managing projects, programs or portfolios

  • Ten years or more of experience with Transmission & Distribution business processes and tools

  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Visio and Powerpoint

  • Must have developed and implemented processes to align with a defined business strategy

Desired Qualifications

  • Master Degree in Engineering, Business, Information Technology or related field

  • 2+ years’ experience in Information Technology or IT Project implementation.

  • 7+ years’ experience leading/managing projects, programs, or equivalent

  • Broad knowledge of Company and Department policies, Strategies, and Goals, including applicable governmental laws and regulations

  • Natural ability to establish good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and ability to coach and mentor others to foster an effective work environment.

  • Experience in reviewing and writing technical documents and policies and procedures.

  • Experience develop and implementing project and change management plans.

  • Project Management Certification.
