About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 15 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview

As the electric utility continues to evolve in California, the Strategy & Business Objectives (SBO) team was formed to translate SCE corporate and Transmission and Distribution Organization objectives into roadmaps for implementation. This includes advancing California’s planning processes regarding customer load, development of generation resources and the expansion of the transmission & distribution grid to become a low carbon and resilient system but remaining reliable and affordable. The Senior Advisor – Load Planning with provide leadership to improve SCE’s internal transmission and distribution planning processes to enable new technologies to integrate high levels of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and meet growing regulatory and customer expectations.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Advise and direct the validation and disaggregation of the California Energy Commission (CEC) annual load and DER forecasts for SCE transmission and distribution planning assessments.

  • Provide internal and public guidance on the California Public Utilities Commission’s Distribution Resource Plan proceeding.

  • Represent the Strategy & Business Objectives team on various workstreams and initiatives related to transmission and distribution planning.

  • Leadership role in development and implementation of new planning methodologies and tools.

  • Interact directly with the Principal Managers and Directors across SCE.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Ten years or more of experience in transmission or distribution engineering.

  • Five years or more of experience managing or leading an organization, unit, team, or project.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business.

  • Seven years of experience managing, supervising, or leading an organization, unit, team, or project.

  • California Professional Engineer License.

  • Experience developing technical strategy and delivering presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience identifying business problems and supporting the creation of plans to address identified problems.

  • Experience with technical writing and documentation.

Comments

  • Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.

  • Position will require up to 10% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.

  • Relocation does not apply to this position.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
