About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 15 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position overview

The Engineering Manager of the Asset Strategy Integration group will lead a team of engineers and project managers that are responsible for performing reliability studies, project managing substation infrastructure replacement (Sub IR) scoping, and integrating value engineering principals into standards and specifications. Reliability studies focus on analyzing circuit performance and historical equipment data towards making recommendations on which areas to make investments to improve reliability and resiliency. Sub IR program consists of performing scoping job walks that identifies and plans for major substation equipment replacements such as circuit breakers, transformers, and switchrack rebuilds. Value engineering efforts identify opportunities for cost efficiencies through implementing standards and specifications that focus on functional and performance needs of the grid.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Provided project management support to Value Engineering Review Teams (Substation, Transmission, Major Equipment, Planning Criteria)

  • Manage Reliability Strategy work, and in particular the socialization of Reliability Strategy among the Engineering organization

  • Manage the end-to-end process flow of supporting the Substation Infrastructure Replacement (Sub IR program, which has both Reliability and Value implications.

  • Report progress and potential savings to Sponsor Principal Managers on a regular basis

  • Collaborate with stakeholder organizations within T&D to work in concert to deliver alternative solutions that are more cost efficient while maintaining our Safety and Reliability needs

  • Provided informational updates to impacted organizations in various forums such as: T&D Joint Tier II, E&TS Quarterly Manager’s Meeting, SC&M Test & Maintenance All Hands, Field Engineering All Hands, and MPO All Hands

  • Established process and facilitate Reliability studies/development and Value Engineering into SubIR pre-engineering scoping.

  • Manage employee performance, establish performance expectations and goals aligned with company objectives, policies and procedures

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

  • Must have Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field

  • Five or more years’ of experience performing engineering studies and/or managing engineering staff.

  • California P.E. License

Desired qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering

  • Minimum 5 years’ electric utility experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge ofDistribution, Transmission, & Substation standards and specifications

  • Experience interfacing and/or collaborating with internal/external clients, governmental agencies, all levels of employees, managers within and across business units

  • Experience implementing strategic plans, and facilitating forums to capture the requirements of business strategy

  • Experience implementing strategic business plans that have a large impact on the organization

  • Experience developing and delivering technical presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences
