Position Overview:

This position will manage inventory planning efforts between all departments of the utility, warehouse locations, and the sourcing staff. Requires a thorough understanding of materials planning methodologies, purchasing, warehousing, and organizational processes as they relate to project management, and coordination of daily/monthly schedules. The functional responsibilities of this position span all departments of the utility and will interface with individuals inside and outside the company. Planning activities will primarily revolve around scheduled work at Service Centers and capital projects, in addition to any maintenance programs within the company service area.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with development of policies, procedures, and strategies to meet short-term and long-term goals with relationship to planning inventory.

  2. Work with the Manager of Supply Chain to develop and implement policies & procedure criteria for using, setting, and maintaining the correct inventory planning levels, BOMs, and methods to meet utility operations and financial goals for scheduled service center work and major capital projects.

  3. Work with alliance vendors to create processes to make sure certain inventory is correctly calculated in production plan to avoid critical stock-outs.

  4. Create, maintain, and report “Key Performance Indicators” with regards to inventory planning, planning performance, inventory levels, fill rates, and strategic company goals.

  5. Continuously review and correct forecasting and planning BOM’s by analyzing recently completed material requests. Make recommendations to respective DLCo. stakeholders for disposition.

  6. Work with Procurement to further optimize consignment programs.

  7. Work with Procurement to optimize purchasing power amongst suppliers.

  8. Generate reports to view jobs on the schedule.

  9. Compile the consolidated list of material and sends the list to the local Storerooms to verify material is on hand.

  10. Review material list from work orders to verify that it is being shipped from the hub storeroom.

  11. Prepare inventory pick lists for all jobs being pulled at all Service Centers.

  12. Governance and oversight of the material kitting process for scheduled work.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Other duties as assigned.

  2. Ability to use problem solving on issues directly related to inventory planning, weather process, human, or system error.

  3. Participate in committees as a representative of the planning process. Review requests for new stores items against established criteria.

  4. Perform analysis on material adjustments due to physical counts/cycle counts, recommend solutions to the Manager of Supply Chain.

Education/Requirements:

REQUIRED: Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree. With 3+ years of relevant experience. Certifications are often desired, Bachelor’s degree with major course work in business, supply chain, computer science, project management or other related field, and a two to four year experience in large scale public or private planning environment.

PREFERRED: 5 to 7 years planning/purchasing experience in an Electrical Utility. APICS (CPIM) certification preferred. Past experience with IBM Maximo ERP system a plus.

Skills/Abilities: Must have strong computer skills and demonstrate experience with use of computerized/automated inventory, procurement, and work order systems, ERP, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products. A heavy emphasis and advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is expected. Must be able to work with limited guidance, and use good judgement in decisions and recommendations. Ability to effect motivation and teamwork through strong interpersonal skills and maintain a positive image throughout the department and utility. Must be a problem solver, with ability to discern complicated flow of data to identify origin or error, and be willing to challenge the status quo.

Scope:

Primary focus is on daily deliverables, outputs and reporting. Typically accountable for managing ones own time and work flow. Responsibilities are generally tactical in nature and work is typically of moderate to complex in nature requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Continues to build knowledge base but has a solid foundation to act independently the majority of the time. Still draws on experts and managers when needed but less frequently.

Decision Impact:

Problems and issues faced are vague. Draws on past experience on a regular basis. Accountable for direct level of reasoning and decision making.

Physical Requirements: Normal office environment. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

Travel Requirements: Less than 10%. Travel to our local operations sites is required.
