Responsible and accountable for the management of Duquesne Light’s full-time and contract Construction Superintendents. Ensures projects are constructed according to approved drawings, standards, requirements, and the NESC while following all related policies, procedures, and practices including those associated with safety, construction quality, and cost control.
Promotes a strong safety culture through enforcing policies, procedures, and best practices.
Manages Construction Superintendent staff to ensure assigned projects are performed safely with respect to contractors, Duquesne Light employees, and the public.
Manages Construction Superintendent staff to ensure assigned projects are constructed in accordance with approved drawings and standards, including the NESC.
Manages individual staff goals and objectives with mentoring, honest and fair evaluations, and helping with opportunities for development.
Communicates regularly with team to discuss current issues, relevant information, training needs, and upcoming schedule.
Ensures that the Construction Management group complies with all process and reporting requirements. Examples include (but not limited to): as-built drawings, material reclaims, construction inspection documentation, extra work authorization documentation, and contractor time sheet approval.
Manages projects to on-time completion through effective use of project schedules, project updates, effective communication, and reporting amongst all three groups: Project Managers, Project Controls group, and Construction Management group.
Reviews and forecasts appropriate Construction Superintendent staffing levels based on latest work plan.
Travel, as needed, to construction jobsites to interact with Construction Superintendents and contractors regarding safety, construction practices, and quality.
Manages assigned purchase orders and contractor payments including construction superintendent staff augmentation, civil projects, stormresponse, emergent work, and others as assigned.
Requests and utilizes approved Construction Superintendent overtime prudently.
Manages security access, training, and badge access for contract workers.
Manages the civil work needed to support capital projects, customer commitment projects, and Duquesne Light emergent projects.
Serves on Duquesne Light’s storm team to manage mutual assistance resources needed to support and reduce overall restoration time.
Education/Experience Required :
- Roles at this level can require a university / college degree and/or 5+ years of relevant industry specific experience.
Understanding of transmission and distribution construction safety rules
Understanding of transmission and distribution construction quality requirements
Interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written
Familiarity with Microsoft Office based programs
Problem solving and analytical skills
Project management skills
Able to travel as required. Mobility within the office and on construction job sites. Ability to work extended periods during peak workload and emergency/storm conditions.
