We are looking for a Electrical Designer/Drafter for our Peterborough, Ontario site. BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems. Today, BWXT’s equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes.

Reporting to the Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Manager, responsibilities of the designer performing this role include supporting the technical direction for the overall project and supporting technical interfacing to both internal and external customers. Electrical designers participate in the development and drafting of designs for automated and semi-automated equipment.
The Instrumentation and Controls Engineering department largely focuses on the control systems and instrumentation involved within Fuel Handling Systems, other parts of the plant, tooling, medical isotope systems as well as remote delivery machines. These systems are often complex and are in specialized areas. The department has the expert knowledge, legacy information and skillset to support our customers with engineering design, troubleshooting, maintenance and support work. We use such tools as AutoCAD®, AutoCAD Electrical® and IntEC® to create concept drawings, detailed designs, elementary drawings, BOMs, wiring diagrams and can also provide design replacement solutions for obsolete components such as relays, motors and circuit cards.
Develop concept designs into detail drawings & bills of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies or product using CAD packages AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and Autodesk Inventor.
Work in a multi-disciplined engineering environment with teams of Professional Engineers and Technologists.
Produce and update general assembly drawings, interconnection block diagrams, functional block diagrams, cable assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, wiring lists, and bills of material.
Selection of instrumentation, control, and power components based on Engineering requirements.
Participate in design reviews and occasional customer review meetings, providing resource information and design input.
Liaise with customer design and operations personnel to gather site-specific design information.
Assist others on specific projects.
Accountable for cost and schedule on assigned projects.
Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology diploma.
AutoCAD experience required, AutoCAD Electrical and Inventor experience an asset.
Must have excellent written and verbal English communication skills understandable by a diverse audience
Ability to work effectively with others.
Possess working knowledge of fundamental drafting technique.
Must be able to multitask and work with minimal supervision.
Competence in control system design and design processes.
Creative problem-solving skills, outstanding analytical abilities, demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work in a team.
3D parametric modeling experience is an asset.
Understanding of a broad range of interdisciplinary departments: mechanical, software design, systems engineering and manufacturing.

Minimum of 5 years related experience in design of electrical systems with previous electrical and controls design drafting experience.
Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry.
Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or greater qualification.
Membership in OACETT or other certifying organization.
Strong communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
General understanding of Engineering Change Control (ECC) concepts for the nuclear industry or other industries.
