Oglethorpe Power Sr Manager/Director of Tax in Oglethorpe Power Headquarters, United States

We are currently in search of either a Sr Manager of Tax or Tax Director , title dependent on candidate experience and background.

This is a multi-faceted corporate tax function working across multiple tax disciplines collaboratively on a streamlined filing schedule. While working on a smaller tax team we belong to a larger consortium which enables access to a nationwide network of other tax professionals for knowledge-sharing and best practices.

Sr. Manager of Tax

Responsible for the company's tax planning, compliance, preparation, filing and analyses. Proactively identifies opportunities for tax savings and cost reductions as well as evaluates potential tax implications of new or continuing business operations. Manages a team of multiple individuals, teaming with other departments to ensure savings opportunities and/or tax impacts are captured and documented.

Job Duties:

  • Directs the preparation of all federal, state and local tax returns including income tax, property tax, sales & use tax, payroll tax, and any other tax reporting requirements including quarterly SEC reporting, compliance, and annual reports. Responsible for OPC, Smarr EMC, Green Power EMC, Green Power Solar & CT Parts LLC tax requirements

  • Designs, implements and directs the company's tax planning strategies, providing support and input into business operations and performing tax due diligence related to acquisitions or other corporate restructurings; identifies and develops strategies for maximizing the benefits of new/existing tax incentives and credits; and assesses implications of new tax opportunities and/ or tax impacts on proposed and existing business transactions

  • Performs and directs researching, interpreting and evaluating tax releases for tax and accounting law changes;

  • Performs complex analyses, presents findings and recommendations to CFO, and performs necessary functions based on findings.

  • Develops and directs intercompany and interdepartmental tax awareness including process improvement and education, to ensure flow of accurate data to and from the tax department necessary for filing various returns, and to identify tax savings opportunities.

  • Directs the representation of the company before the Internal Revenue Service representatives, Georgia Department of Revenue personnel, outside tax counsel, the company's auditors, and other entities regarding the company's tax positions.

  • Prepares and delivers analyses and summary communications to the members as it relates to the tax matters such as patronage dividend allocations.

  • Oversees a team of staff to ensure the tax department is in compliance with corporate policy and initiatives

    Required Qualifications:

    Education : BBA in Accounting, Finance; Masters of Taxation or MBA preferred.

    Experience : In depth working knowledge of federal and state taxes required. Minimum of 4 years work experience in utility industry; 6 preferred, and experience with in-house income tax return preparation using CCH Axcess. Preference given to 2 years of supervisory experience including hiring authority and performance oversight.

    Preference given to experience in cooperative taxation.

    Equivalent Experience : 8 years progressive corporate tax experience and experience with in-house income tax return preparation using CCH Axcess. Preference given to 2 years of supervisory experience including hiring authority and performance oversight.

    Specialized Skills : Ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the corporation - both written & verbal. Experience with PowerPlan and PowerTax, preferred. Familiarity with using tax preparation software such as CCH Axcess, ProSystems Engagement, as well as utilizing online tax research applications (CCH ResearchConnect), preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office Professional Plus 13 applications (Excel, Word) and Adobe Acrobat for paperless reviewing. Experience with Infor (Lawson) and Business Objects applications helpful. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

    Licenses, Registrations, and/or Certifications : Certified Public Accountant

    Travel : 5% - 10% (generally, local to Georgia)

    Director of Tax
