Security Command Operator
Location: MI - Novi
Works to ensure administrative, operational, regulatory, security and threat identification related duties are executed within the established policies and procedures. Executes the coordination and analysis of incidents, security related monitoring and response activities. Performs and adheres to procedures and associated security systems operations implemented to safeguard company assets and operation of the transmission systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Takes initiative, ownership and accountability in the day-to-day operations of the Security Command Center (SCC).
Proactively responds to suspicious, identified or reported incidents following proper procedures and protocols.
Works with the Operations Control Room (OCR) and other groups on security matters to ensure appropriate level of response.
Reviews event information to detect or assess situations utilizing Physical Access Control Systems (PACS), Video Surveillance/Management Systems (VMS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), alarm monitoring systems and all associated user hardware of those systems.
Monitors and provides access to individuals arriving at office facilities, or other facilities as assigned.
Secures premises and personnel by monitoring and patrolling property, inspecting buildings, equipment and access points.
Executes SCC activities per procedures, training and standard operating practices in concert with the various external security agencies and counterparts across the service territories.
Monitors and responds to the Intelligence and Threat notification system and other security related notification services, identifies relevant information and disseminates appropriately.
Performs SCC operational telephonic and email communications.
Completes routine testing and assessment of security systems for availability and functionality.
Adheres to all applicable electric utility related regulatory and security procedures.
Collaborates on daily ‘hands-on’ activities and provides guidance to other security command operators.
Works across all shifts ensuring tasks, documentation and responses are consistent.
Completes training requirements; including NERC CIP, organization Policies & Procedures, Security System applications and tools.
Performs daily SCC operator’s logs, reports and work products.
High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Computer Sciences, Law Enforcement or other related technical or security fields preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in security or incident management, preferably in Security Command Center operations environment.
Ability to work rotating shifts - 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week/ 365 days a year.
Ability to exercise independent judgment, work in a high stress environment with speed and accuracy and have excellent written and verbal skills.
Possesses good analytical ability and able to make independent decisions based on analysis in a limited time frame.
Ability to provide leadership in emergency situations.
Possesses computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), internet based software and tools; skills in the following applications preferred: Physical Access Control Systems (PACS), Video Surveillance/Management Systems (VMS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), alarm monitoring systems and all associated hardware of those systems.
Primary work location is Novi, MI with frequent travel to Ann Arbor, MI for training or as needed.
Law enforcement and/or related technical military experience preferred.
Experience working in a Police/Fire dispatch center or equivalent preferred.
Familiarity with standard security communication protocols, incident management system and equipment.
Highly motivated and able to function efficiently in a minimally supervised environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
Demonstrate the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality towards all security related matters.
An understanding of federal regulatory compliance programs related to the electric utility environment preferred (FERC, NERC and other critical security programs mandated by the government).
Attend training or relevant seminars and conferences.
