ITC Holdings Accountant in Novi, Michigan
Location: MI - Novi
Performs fixed asset accounting activities to ensure accurate and timely processing of information in accordance with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations and guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs fixed asset accounting activities for capital projects/construction work; structures project work orders to achieve desired accounting results; monitors construction progress and movement of assets into service and close out work orders to ensure that fixed assets are properly included in rate base; controls charges to work orders to ensure accurate accounting records in accordance with GAAP and FERC guidelines.
Prepares capital expenditure reports for monthly asset and depreciation activity.
Researches and applies FERC accounting guidelines to fixed asset transactions as necessary; reviews and/or prepares fixed asset reports for management and FERC reporting.
Assesses fixed asset accounting and other business processes to identify potential areas of improvement or changes needed to accommodate new subsidiaries, new rate structures or other ratemaking requirements.
Designs, documents, implements, modifies and monitors internal financial controls in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements; recommends changes to accounting policies and procedures.
Analyzes and reconciles accounts to ensure proper accounting of transactions; researches and resolves accounting issues.
Assists with internal and external audit document requests.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in accounting.
Utility accounting and/or fixed asset accounting experience preferred.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, vlookup, sumif).
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook.
Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to convey complex information clearly, concisely, and effectively to individuals at all levels in the organization and with external auditors.
Possess sound analytical problem-solving skills to resolve complex accounting and related issues.
Ability to research and analyze various types of data.
Ability to work extended hours during peak periods to meet compliance driven deadlines.
