Job Purpose

The Estimator is responsible for assisting with the administrative function of current projects by analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare material and subcontractor take-offs for bid projects. This position supports Project teams and works with vendors as well as personnel from other departments.

Essential Functions

  1. Prepare accurate take-of materials, subcontracting, and production items for projects.

  2. Acquire plans for projects.

  3. Prepare and deliver bids.

  4. Prepare subcontracts and purchase orders for projects.

  5. Assist operations in administrative duties on projects.

  6. Furnish bid information for tracking purposes, follow bid process, and work on improving bid process.

  7. Prepare job files for operations.

  8. Keep job log up-to-date.

  9. Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. A College Degree, or equivalent.

  2. Knowledge of methods and specifications in the utility construction field.

  3. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  4. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

  5. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  6. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

  7. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only standardization exists.

  8. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  9. Excellent organizational and communication skills, business management skills, and have general knowledge of OSHA regulations.

  10. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Previous utility construction project estimator experience.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates primarily in a professional office environment, with job site inspections as needed. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and scanners.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is primarily sedentary, with some filing or lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
