This is a multi-level posting and placement is dependent upon the successful candidate’s level of knowledge, skill and experience.

This position supports PSE&G, NJ’s largest electric and gas utility. Support the communications team in effectively communicating the strategic objectives of the company, primarily to external audiences. Build relationships with clients, including vice presidents and the utility president, and leverage those relationships to ensure effective delivery of communications products. Provide clear and timely information on company-related decisions, action and events. Offer assistance to other communicators and management. Research and respond to media inquiries and manage the out-of-hours media team, including overseeing schedule development and serving as back-up as needed. Collaborate with corporate web and creative services staff. Write articles for employee communications products. Help implement meetings and special events. Develop talking points, presentations and online leadership messages.

In addition to the above the Communications Sr Consultant will:

Collaborate with internal partners and clients to develop effective communications strategies. Support a structured effort to cascade and reinforce messages with the right tools and most effective communication channels for each segment. Coach and support the development of less experienced colleagues. Conduct research and utilize knowledge of latest communication strategies in the development, writing and editing of media statements, presentations, messages and speeches. Support other communicators' relationships with the news media, including print, radio and TV. Assist with press conferences and media availabilities. Prepare company representatives by providing talking points, FAQs and background.

Required Skills, Competencies, Education or Experience (Grade 27):

• Bachelor’s degree; prefer major in Communications, English, Journalism, or Business; and a minimum of 5 years of experience in writing and editing.

• Demonstrated proficiency in corporate communications writing and editing

• Experience researching and responding to media queries, and producing press releases, talking points, op-eds, position papers, etc.

• Proficient in Microsoft Suite, as well as experience with internal and external websites.

• Self-starter with demonstrated ability to work within a team.

• Understanding of social media and its application to business communications

• Experience/ability to learn how to post information to company website and Intranet.

• Experience working with clients or customers.

• Analytical skills as well as proven ability to be innovative and creative.

• Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented, matrixed organization

• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting tight deadlines.

• Familiarity with creative processes (layout, photography, print production).

• Experience in events and meeting planning and management.

Required Skills, Competencies, Education or Experience (Grade 28):

• Bachelor’s degree; prefer major in Communications, English, Journalism, or Business; and 8-10 years of work experience in corporate business communications, journalism, or related experience..

• Demonstrated experience in writing and editing.

• Experience with on-camera interviews and live phoners.

• Proven ability to lead a team; Experience in coaching and developing others

• Proven ability to identify and manage interaction with multiple departments, media, photographers, community associations/affiliations

• Ability to write, organize and post information to company website and Intranet.

• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communications plans.

• Analytical skills. (Proven ability to be innovative and creative)

• Project planning and organizing skills.

• Experience using social media and incorporating social media into communication plans

• Familiarity with creative processes (layout, photography, print production).

• Experience in measuring the effectiveness of a communication plan.
