Core Responsibilities

  • Steam Plant Project Engineering is seeking to hire an Engineer to join its team. The ideal candidate for this position must be dedicated, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and on teams.

  • The Engineer will be responsible for the complete management of selected projects; design and review of power plant auxiliary systems, design, equipment, and installation specifications, bid preparation and evaluation, appropriations, scheduling, construction and acceptance testing.

  • The Engineer will provide technical support and guidance to operations, maintenance and construction personnel, as well as providing direct field support in response to failures and emergencies.

  • The Engineer will make technical and economical evaluations to determine the best design features for the plant systems.

  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering And Requires 2 years of work experience to include one year of applicable engineering work experience in steam plant systems engineering and design (ASSOCIATE ENGINEER A 1H). Or

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering And 3 years of experience working in steam plant systems engineering and design (ENGINEER 2L) Or

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering And 8 years of experience working in steam plant systems engineering and design (SR. ENGINEER 2H) Or

  • Master's Degree and a Bachelors degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering And 6 years of experience working in steam plant systems engineering and design (SR. ENGINEER 2H)

Required Work Experience

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with experience in steam power plant systems engineering and design. Req And

  • The engineer will be responsible for the complete management of selected projects; design and review of power plant auxiliary systems, design, equipment, and installation specifications, bid preparation and evaluation, appropriations, scheduling, construction and acceptance testing. Req And

  • Actual working experience in electric and steam power plants is preferred. Preferred

  • Must be dedicated, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and on teams. Preferred

  • The candidate must be knowledgeable in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer as well as water and waste water treatment systems, waste water neutralization systems, boiler chemistry, hydraulic calculations, and related auxiliary systems and equipment.

  • The engineer will provide technical support and guidance to operations, maintenance and construction personnel, as well as providing direct field support in response to failures and emergencies.

  • The engineer will make technical and economical evaluations to determine the best design features for the plant systems.

  • The Candidate will be required to travel to all Con Edison sites requiring support including steam and electric plants.

  • Requires strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with personnel on all levels.

  • Requires computer proficiency.

  • Actual working experience in electric and steam power plants is preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Driver's License Required

  • Professional Engineer (PE) Preferred

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.

  • Successful candidate must be able and willing to make field visits to corporate locations throughout the company's service territory.

  • Must be able and willing to wear required PPE as needed.

  • Will be required to travel to all Con Edison sites requiring support including steam and electric plants.
