Cleco Lead Financial Analyst in New Roads, Louisiana

Role summary

The Lead Analyst (Prof IV), Wholesale Subsidiary is a professional responsible for performing strategic and financial analysis as it relates to Wholesale Subsidiary financials and underlying drivers. The incumbent performs analyses, provides insights, and communicates results to key stakeholders. The incumbent focuses on task performance and interactions, clarifies routine matters and assesses issues / performance which promote/impede Wholesale Subsidiary service delivery.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform analysis on complex business issues including variance analysis of operating and financial results against budget and forecast targets and prior period results

  • Assist in preparation of budgets and forecasts; report on Wholesale Subsidiary financial performance and prepare materials for regular leadership review

  • Review customer billing data and perform key analysis on new and existing contracts; work closely with the accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting

  • Assist with process automation and design by identifying areas to reduce routine manual tasks

  • Lead the development and implementation of appropriate metrics to manage business risks and improve decision making; respond to internal and external customer requests; consider future implications beyond an immediate problem

  • Contribute innovative ideas and collaborate with General Accounting Manager to develop and drive continuous improvement of Wholesale Subsidiary service delivery and processes

  • Stay up to date with all department software with a continued focus on utilizing tools to improve accuracy and efficiency of Wholesale Subsidiary; participate in the integration of current systems (e.g., SAP) and analytical techniques to enhance/streamline current operations

  • Interact with management on a regular basis both within the Accounting department and other stakeholders, including Cleco Cajun management, and other Cleco functions

  • Work to achieve full compliance with applicable controls, rules and regulations in management and/or operations

  • Develop solid business relationships becoming a trusted advisor with key functional leaders and stakeholders to proactively support business objectives for Wholesale Subsidiary accounting

  • Champion a corporate culture that emphasizes transparency, integrity, safety, environmental responsibility, employee development, diversity and inclusion, customer service, and operational excellence

Qualifications (Required Education, Experience and Skills)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, Master’s degree preferred

  • CPA preferred

  • 7+ years of related experience

  • Experience with Financial Systems/SAP preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft tools and applications required

  • Ability to negotiate and influence with a consultative approach

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, and project management skills

  • Ability to exercise judgment with little direction/guidance but also knows when to escalate to the General Accounting Manager

  • Proficient at functioning effectively within a team environment, present ideas and opinions in a respective and collegial manner

  • Knowledge of GAAP, Internal Control processes
