Maintain safe work practices, follow safety rules, and perform as a safety leader.
Perform Valve Maintenance, inspection, and Repair Functions of the Gas System.
Perform Valve Maintenance Survey documentation completely and accurately using paper and electronic media (EPOCH).
Perform Valve Maintenance Surveys within time and budget guidelines and in accordance with the Office of Pipeline (OPS) Safety Requirements.
Analyze data collected from surveys and determine remedial action needed to correct problems or potential problems.
Utilize Entergy Gas computer applications systems: EPOCH, GT viewer GIS, CCS, DSS, Microsoft Office programs etc. to help plan, schedule, and document inspections.
Route valve inspection maps and work with records group to update GIS data.
Provide Valve Maintenance expertise (direction and support) to Engineering, Construction, Maintenance and Contractor Crews, service, measurement and Groups for design, construction, and maintenance projects.
Assist with the evaluation and replacement of Valve facilities.
Willingness to cross train in other functions of Field Support work group: Leakage surveys and Cathodic Protection.
Minimum experience required of the position
Mechanic I – 1- 2 years Gas experience
Mechanic II - 2 to 4 year Gas experience
Mechanic Sr - 5+ years Gas experience
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position
Ability to read and understand mapping systems (paper/electronic).
Ability to organize workloads, establish priorities and work safely under pressure.
Basic knowledge of Valve Maintenance principles.
Be able to identify various valve types, and how to perform preventative and remedial maintenance on them.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to obtain (OQ) Operator Qualification.
Ability to operate various types of equipment and instrumentation.
Have and maintain a current/valid driver’s license.
Ability to occasionally work overtime / respond to call outs as necessary.
Ability to obtain a TWIC card.
Knowledge of pipeline safety regulations (OPS)
Knowledge of general safety rules and practices
Willingness to continue with development and attend training and/or seminars as requested. Travel may be required for up to 2 weeks.
Knowledge of gas distribution system
Working knowledge of the AM/FM / GIS / DIS programs
Familiar with service territory area
Seeing, speaking, hearing, lifting/carrying (75 lbs.), standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, walking (long distances or periods of time), sitting, climbing a ladder, inserting and extracting a probe rod from the earth, driving.
Good mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools and small power tools.
Ability to lift heavy equipment such as: large valve wrenches, pumps and manhole covers.
Operate: Grease gun and pump, water pumps, drill, taps and dies, pneumatic tools, etc.
Work extensively outdoors (greater than 90%) under various weather conditions.
