This position will be filled as an Engineer I -Sr based on qualifications. The preferred location for this position is New Orleans, LA; however, the selected candidate may choose to continue working at their current Entergy work location outside of New Orleans
Job Summary/ Purpose:
This role is within the Enterprise Planning team with a focus on non-wire alternative projects impacting the distribution system. This includes analyzing and supporting the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), energy storage systems other demand-side products and resources for the implementation of non-traditional solutions for constraints on the distribution system, supporting non-wire projects involving the transmission system, as well as supporting resource planning and other special projects that help the company meet its sustainability goals. The candidate should have a strong technical background and be comfortable working in an agile, fast-paced, technical environment.
Job Duties/ Responsibilities:
Provides expertise and technical support for studies and analyses involving non-wire alternative solutions for Distribution projects.
Work closely with Distribution Standards, distribution regional field engineering, Distribution Asset Planning, Op Co regional customer service, distribution line supervisors, the Distribution Operations Center, and other key stakeholders regarding DER interconnections, emerging technologies, processes, and procedures.
Development and support of company distribution and joint T&D projects, DER programs, PV programs, and non-wires alternatives planning methodologies. Work closely with the Enterprise Business Partnerships and the technology assessment group to incorporate emerging technology into non-wire alternatives.
Act as the Enterprise Planning liaison and technical support for Entergy’s sustainability and non-wire efforts, working closely with the area transmission and distribution planner.
Support Distribution interconnection projects, including support with Feasibility and System Impact studies, and other special projects that may be pursued by Enterprise Planning.
Perform a wide variety of system planning, modeling, analysis, and project oriented engineering activities.
Assist with storm restoration efforts in a local, state, or system capacity.
Minimum education required for the position
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Chemical, Industrial) from four year accredited institution. Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial)
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with PE or the ability to acquire PE within 2 – 5 years, depending on Engineer level.
Minimum experience required for the position
Engineer I: 0 – 2 years experience in an engineering discipline
Engineer II: 2+ years experience in an engineering discipline
Engineer III: 4+ years experience in an engineering discipline
Sr Engineer: 6+ years experience in an engineering discipline
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position
Technical mastery of engineering principles. In-depth knowledge of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area. Consistently drives for value in sound engineering decisions. Mentors other engineers and technical professionals. Good leadership skills. Good interpersonal skills along with strong written and oral communication skills. Excellent math skills. Excellent project management skills. Good knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software. Familiar with National Electrical Safety Codes and National Electrical Code. Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities. Ability to work well under pressure. Required to work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures. Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and have the ability to mitigate the hazards. Ability to meet the public in a pleasant and tactful manner and understand the importance of delivering a high level of customer service. Demonstrated acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment and customer base. Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement and have the ability to enact change.
Preferred: Technical mastery of engineering principles, in-depth knowledge of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area, consistently drives for value through sound engineering principles, strong written and oral communication skills, ability to work well under pressure, required to work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and understand the importance of delivering a high level of customer service and demonstrated acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Any certificates, licenses, etc., required for the position
Engineer III-SR - EIT OR Graduate Level Engineering Degree Required. Must have valid driver's license and good driving record.
