JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Director, Transmission Engineering's primary responsibilities include leadership, direction, and oversight of the technical design for substation, relaying, and transmission line projects throughout the Entergy service territory. Included in this are civil, structural, electrical, relay protection, relay settings, and RTU configuration engineering analyses. Support services such as drafting, document management, and material coordination are also part of this organization, as is the development of design basis and standards for all engineering disciplines. Other responsibilities within this Transmission Engineering include engineering services, contract management, workgroup direction and strategic planning, financial stewardship, configuration management, standards development, and compliance. This position has the accountability to ensure resources are available to meet the workload and to promote safety, diversity and employee development throughout the organization.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop strategic organizational plans to provide direction for Transmission Engineering work groups: transmission line design, relay design, and transmission and distribution substation design, which include training, development, and performance measurement. Provide leadership, direction and oversight for various building blocks within Transmission Engineering, including capital project designs, engineering services, contract management, workgroup direction and strategic planning, configuration management, standards development, and compliance.

Manage work flow by scheduling work, providing work direction, setting goals and objectives, developing productivity measures and implementing a work unit policy for the engineering staff. Accountable for tracking and controlling the engineering phase of project costs, project schedules, and engineering quality to meet all project goals, achieve critical milestones and accomplish required levels of customer satisfaction.

Solve technical engineering problems by interpreting and evaluating information, uncovering related issues, developing methods or procedures for gathering information, making recommendations and implementing solutions.

Develop and maintain a highly skilled, motivated and team oriented workforce by participating in the interviewing and hiring of new employees, aiding in employee development, mentoring and coaching, counseling, training, evaluating and recognizing perform

Respond to engineering-related regulatory compliance issues; Provides technical engineering expertise in developing responses to regulatory requests from FERC, NERC, SERC and other regulatory bodies.

Participate on industry forums, serving as Entergy's Engineering Design representative on national, industry committees.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

BS in Engineering or other technical discipline.

Minimum experience required of the position

Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in the utility industry with experience in various engineering disciplines. Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory or leadership experience.

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

Solid foundation in Power System Engineering with a working knowledge of Engineering Economics. Advanced knowledge of transmission line, substation, and relay design, standards, procedures and processes, along with a thorough understanding of operations, project management, and/or planning. Experience in managing/executing capital and/or O&M projects. Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multi-projects simultaneously. Capable of moving frequently between multiple tasks, while prioritizing conflicting priorities. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with superiors, colleagues and individuals inside and outside the Company. Sound analytical, problem solving and documentation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills; team player. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), budgets, financial procedures, and property accounting.
