Supports a manager and/or departmental peers by performing accounting related activities. Executes business processes and associated controls. Owns one or more key complex processes and plays a key role in project or process improvement initiatives. Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, analyzing, verifying, consolidating, and entering accounting transactions. Providing accurate reports based on requested information and provide good customer service.
Performs assignments requiring understanding and application of complex accounting and regulatory principles, practices, and concepts (i.e. preparation of analyses, journal entries, reconciliations, etc.).
Accepts ownership of business processes and associated controls, including ensuring ongoing relevance in a changing environment.
Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to accounting issues.
Perform analysis and research on technical accounting issues, including the ability to determine the accounting treatment for complex transactions.
Demonstrates strong written and oral communication skills
Provides customer service to internal and external customers.
Identifies process improvement opportunities.
Plays a key role in project or process improvement initiatives.
Ensures the accuracy of financial statements and reports.
Demonstrates strong systems capabilities
Minimum education required of this position:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Minimum experience required of this position:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position :
Technical systems-based capabilities desired; Utility accounting experience desired; Working knowledge of the FERC uniform system of accounts a plus; Knowledge of accounting controls and processes; Working knowledge of MS Office applications; displays strong analytical skills by efficiently using knowledge of tools and business processes to identify problems and resolve issues. Ability to work independently; Ability to work in a team environment. Plays a key role in Sarbanes Oxley coordination and testing. Basic understanding of state and local regulatory environment is a plus.

Desired: Professional Certifications such as CPA or making progress toward CPA.
