NOTE: This single vacancy is posted in more than one grade level and will be filled based on commensurate education and/or relevant experience. It is written at the lower grade level and expectations increase with the higher grade level.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing entry level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of theory to solve well-defined problems or provide analysis, with guidance from higher-level engineers. Assists higher-level engineers in handling well-defined portions of more complex problems and analyses. Gains familiarity with standards, codes, and regulations relevant to the area of assignment. Gains familiarity with pertinent equipment, materials, systems and business processes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Review relay protection and control activities for 4kV thru 765KV electrical substation projects.

  • Review P&C scopes and cost estimates for electric substation projects.

  • Prepare and/or review P&C engineering and designs for electrical substation projects.

  • Participate in project scheduling, resource planning, and cost control for assigned projects.

  • Provide engineering support for project installation, commissioning, checkout and troubleshooting.

  • Review and approve P&C related work of other team members.

  • Model transmission system impedances and perform short circuit fault studies.

  • Perform area protection studies and recommend settings for existing and new transmission line and station protection schemes.

  • Review, evaluate and provide P&C comments and recommendations on transmission system planning proposals.

  • Coordinate with transmission customers and interconnected companies on associated protection issues.

  • Perform activities related to NERC P&C standards.

  • Identify, clarify, resolve, and initiate solutions to protection and control problems through analysis of interruption reports and fault recorder records.

  • Contribute to development of system-wide protection standards for transmission and distribution station protection, metering and control applications.

  • Provide general P&C technical support, as needed, including the technical interfaces with Telecomm, Operations, Transmission Region Operations, Station Engineering, Transmission Planning and Project Management.

Engineer Associate (entry level):

This is an entry level position for new graduates who typically has 0-1 years of experience; Bachelor's degree in ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING in a program accredited by (ABET)*; Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.

*ABET – Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. OR (2) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's or Doctorate in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.

Engineer (intermediate level grade 6):

Has typically acquired two (2) or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING in a program accredited by ABET*; Individuals with a Master’s or Doctorate degree in engineering may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.

*ABET – Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. OR (2) a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's or Doctorate degree in Engineering from a university with an *ABET accredited Bachelor's program. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.

Engineer (intermediate level grade 7):

Has typically acquired four (4) or more years along with a Bachelor's degree in ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING in a program accredited by ABET; OR two (2) years of related engineering experience along with a Master's degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET; Individuals with a PhD in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET* may be considered for entry into the organization at this level. Registration as Professional Engineer (PE_ in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is encouraged and preferred..

ABET – Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. OR (2) a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's or Doctorate degree in Engineering from a university with an *ABET accredited Bachelor's program. * Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.
