This position may be filled as Reservoir Engineer III, Reservoir Engineer IV, Senior Reservoir Engineer or Staff Reservoir Engineer. Individuals who demonstrate advanced skills in terms of work experience, education, and certifications may be eligible for the more advanced position.

JOB SUMMARY

Reservoir Engineer, Reservoir Engineering, provides technical and functional expertise to effectively and efficiently maximize the deliverability and operability of Southern Company Gas’s storage assets. This is achieved through detailed analysis, evaluation, monitoring, and continuous enhancement of existing reservoir, well, and ancillary facilities for all 13 Nicor and Pivotal UGS assets. This role will also perform critical design, planning, and execution functions for all new storage assets in the UGS system.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES BY COMPETENCY

RESERVOIR ENGINEER III

Functional Expertise

• Develop proficient understanding of fundamental principles of underground natural gas storage.

• Utilize analytical models and tools to determine and optimize underground storage assets.

• Conduct reservoir and individual well analysis of storage assets to predict, monitor, and manage reservoir performance.

• Perform reservoir studies to track reservoir performance as compared to predicted performance - develop optimal schedules and forecasts of individual reservoir deliverability.

Responsibilities

• Develop basic proficiency in well work over principles and well design.

• Become proficient in log analysis.

• Identify work over/recompletion, stimulation, and integrity investigation candidates.

• Investigate well diagrams/history in preparation for work over programs.

Business Acumen / Engagement

• Demonstrates understanding of reservoir data analysis and reaches technical sound conclusions.

• Participates in design/analysis discussions and consistently contributes.

• Ability to adhere to tasks and complete them in timely manner.

• Interfaces well within the department and storage operations. other Southern Company Gas departments on major project initiatives.

• Communicates with external counterparties on the details of the project specifics (capacity, deliverability, etc.).

• Conduct the initial engineering analysis, modeling, and design.

• Clearly communicate results within the department.

Specific Skills / Knowledge

• Basic understanding of reservoir analysis and well design.

• Basic understanding of reservoir modeling.

• Familiarity with industry software (Petrel, Well view, etc.).

• Proficient use of Microsoft Office.

Levels of Expertise

• Entry Level – understands the engineering principles of underground gas storage; requires supervision and direction.

Minimum Education or Experience Requirements

• BS in Engineering required

• Degree in geotechnical field (Petroleum, Geological, Geology) preferred

RESERVOIR ENGINEER IV

Functional Expertise

• Proficient understanding of fundamental principles of underground natural gas storage.

• Develop and monitor injection and withdrawal scenarios.

• Utilize analytical models and tools to determine and optimize underground storage assets.

• Conduct reservoir and individual well analysis of storage assets to predict, monitor, and manage reservoir performance.

• Perform reservoir studies to track reservoir performance as compared to predicted performance - develop optimal schedules and forecasts of individual reservoir deliverability.

Responsibilities

• Develop proficiency in well design and workover activities.

• Work closely with field staff and other engineering disciplines to identify and carry out remedial opportunities on wells and associated facilities.

• Identify workover/recompletion, stimulation, and integrity investigation candidates.

• Prepare detailed procedures and AFE cost estimates for rig workovers, routine well work, and logging activities.

Business Acumen / Engagement

• Demonstrates efficiency in developing and managing projects.

• Evaluate procedures and processes while providing suggestions to improve efficiencies.

• Participate in and consistently provide clear recommendations in design/analysis discussions.

• Understand economics of storage operations.

• Interfaces well within the department and storage operations, as well as other Southern Company Gas departments on major project initiatives.

• Communicates with external counterparties on the details of the project specifics (capacity, deliverability, etc.).

• Conduct the initial engineering analysis, modeling, and design.

• Clearly communicate results within the department and storage operations.

• Strong understanding of reservoir analysis and well design.

• Proficient understanding of reservoir modeling.

• Familiarity with industry software (Petrel, Wellview, etc.)

• Proficient use of Microsoft Office.

• Perform fundamental tasks with proficiency.

• Requires a normal degree of supervision and direction.

Minimum Education or Experience Requirements

• 3 year experience as practicing Reservoir Engineer

• MBA preferred

• PMP preferred

SENIOR RESERVOIR ENGINEER

Functional Expertise

• Substantial understanding of fundamental principles of underground natural gas storage.

• Develop and lead utilization of analytical models and tools to determine and optimize underground storage assets.

• Conduct and supervise reservoir and individual well analysis of storage assets to predict, monitor, and manage reservoir performance.

• Perform, review, and supervise reservoir studies to track reservoir performance as compared to predicted performance - develop optimal schedules and forecasts of individual reservoir deliverability.

Responsibilities

• Substantial proficiency in well design and work over activities.

• Work closely with field staff and other engineering disciplines to identify and carry out remedial opportunities on wells and associated facilities.

• Identify work over/recompletion, stimulation, and integrity investigation candidates.

• Prepare/Review detailed procedures and AFE cost estimates for rig work over, routine well work, and logging activities.

• Supervise well work over field activities.

Business Acumen / Engagement

• Develop and execute projects and some programs with the department.

• Provide due diligence analysis on operational scenarios with little direction.

• Participate in and consistently provide clear recommendations in design/analysis discussions.

• Drive economic analysis in supporting operations.

• Interfaces well within the department and storage operations, as well as other Southern Company Gas departments on major project initiatives.

• Communicates with external counterparties on the details of the project specifics (capacity, deliverability, etc.).

• Conduct and lead the initial engineering analysis, modeling, design, and costing of subsurface facilities for proposed projects / acquisitions.

• Work with locations to efficiently run storage facilities / key stakeholder during critical operating periods.

Specific Skills / Knowledge

• Substantial understanding of reservoir analysis and well design.

• Proficient understanding of reservoir modeling.

• Familiarity with industry software (Petrel, Well view, etc.).

Minimum Education or Experience Requirements

• 5 years experience as practicing Reservoir Engineer

• MS in Petroleum or Geological Engineering preferred

STAFF RESERVOIR ENGINEER

Functional Expertise

• Lead specific and complex reservoir studies and programs within the department.

• Develop and lead utilization of analytical models and tools to determine and optimize underground storage assets.

• Conduct and supervise reservoir and individual well analysis of storage assets to predict, monitor, and manage reservoir performance.

• Perform, review, and supervise reservoir studies to track reservoir performance as compared to predicted performance - develop optimal schedules and forecasts of individual reservoir deliverability.

Responsibilities

• Comprehensive proficiency in well design and work over activities.

• Work closely with field staff and other engineering disciplines to manage remedial programs.

• Identify work over/recompletion, stimulation, and integrity investigation candidates.

• Prepare/Review detailed procedures and AFE cost estimates for rig work overs, routine well work, and logging activities.

• Supervise well work over field activities.

• Oversee consultants and contractors.

Business Acumen / Engagement

• Develop, execute, and lead programs with the department.

• Lead discussion on all reservoir engineering related analysis and recommendations.

• Work with and direct contractors and consultants.

• Seen as a leader in the department.

• Takes a lead role in communicating results to department leadership and storage operations.
