National Grid Gas Mechanic A- Welder in N Syracuse, New York

About the Position:

Under direct supervision to operate air compressors, all pneumatic or hydraulic tools and automotive equipment including all accessory equipment such as winches and dump bodies; to assist gas mechanics of higher grade in the more complicated types of gas maintenance, repair and construction work; to perform field clerical work as required; and as proficiency increases to perform work of progressively increasing variety and complexity. Job Qualifications:

  • A National Grid certification in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), is preferred.

  • Preferred if candidate has satisfactory training as Gas Mechanic Helper or equivalent

  • Must have one year's educational background in electrical, mechanical or gas theory or twelve (12) months' experience in related mechanical work.

  • Must have a valid driver license

  • Must have a valid CDL

  • Must pass validated aptitude test

NOTE : Employees who demonstrate their aptitude for the work and establish a satisfactory record during one year of employment in this position will be promoted to a Gas Mechanic B. A satisfactory record must include the successful completion of Gas Mechanic B school.

Note: For positions posted to Gas Instrumentation and Regulation (I&R), Gas Mechanic A (Distribution) and Gas Mechanic Helper (Distribution) is equivalent to I&R Gas Mechanic A and I&R Gas Mechanic Helper. Upon completion of the required time at Gas Mechanic Helper and Gas Mechanic A, plus two years at I&R Gas Mechanic B (Pay Group 16), employees will be promoted to I&R Gas Mechanic C (Pay Group 20) in accordance with Memorandum of Agreement - Job Specifications in the Gas Instrumentation and Regulation (I&R) Department.
