The Key Account and Economic Development Manager I position is responsible for providing electric utility consultation and technical guidance to industrial and commercial customers, represent company on new or expanding economic development projects, and assist community economic development partners to strategically grow the region. This position performs a wide variety of services including engineering, regulatory, rates and estimates, billing, contract development, power quality, account services, data gathering, communication and information sharing. This position supports the customers and communities by resolving technical and regulatory issues, driving customer and community interactions to mitigate the impacts of electric and gas utility service issues. From an economic development perspective, this position will support leadership engagement and customer service to government and community economic development professionals. This role will engage regularly with a wide variety of departments throughout the company as a single point of contact to ensure adherence of company policies, regulations and goals while advancing economic development efforts and ensuring a positive customer experience for external stakeholders.
Required Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 1 – 3 years of professional experience or a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience in economic development, real estate, or electric/gas utility distribution operations or technical consulting work; Should possess a basic understanding of the electric and gas distribution business; Experience in managing and facilitating customer issues and projects with competing priorities in a timely and effective manner utilizing supervision when needed; Possess solid interpersonal skills, including the ability to use tact, courtesy, professionalism, and discretion while dealing with individuals at all levels within an organization; Familiarity with database applications, MS Office and Excel, written and verbal communications, presentations, meeting facilitation is desired; Fundamental analytical skills and demonstrated proficiency is required; Must possess a valid vehicle driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications Excellent interpersonal and organization skills with focus on customer service and time management is needed; Working knowledge of utility rate structures and calculations, tariffs, utility operations, power quality, service restoration processes, utility load control programs, interconnection programs, and demand side management programs, distributed generation technologies and their application to industrial and commercial customers is desired; Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, remain highly flexible, and take initiative in a demanding and changing work environment with rapidly changing priorities; Completion of the Basic Economic Development Course by IDEC
Job Description Serves as the single point of contact and facilitates information sharing with customers, site consultants and real estate executives in the areas of electric tariffs, rates, regulations, and rate calculations and analysis to ensure rate designations are in accordance with regulatory filings and Sarbanes Oxley controls
Drive and market to economic development projects through completion while ensuring external parties are receiving the specific site information and responses inquiries regarding infrastructure, tariffs, rates, policies and practices of the company within the required deadlines
Interprets load data information accordingly for rate determination, billing and contract development purposes, and evaluates connected load and diversity factors; Engages with engineering design to ensure appropriate infrastructure meets the customer’s needs; Utilizes peers to advise external engineers on the completion of load data sheets
With limited oversight, supports assigned customers, state economic development cabinet, community constituents, site consultants, and real estate executives through on-site visits, scheduled customer meetings, email or phone communications to meet the needs of customers or projects
Develops and promotes economic development opportunities, renewable energy initiatives, and general company offerings to customers
Fosters relationships with customer‘s on energy demand and usage, external stakeholders on economic development opportunities and regularly engages customer management and senior leadership on these issues
With support investigates power quality issues (i.e. outages, voltage sag and swells, momentary operations, other disturbances, etc.) through the distribution and transmission control centers and associated database applications and translates/filters information to customers as determined appropriate
With assistance, provides guidance on technologies and solutions to improve customer power factor with assistance from peers
Coordinates communications with customers to enable the transfer of customer energy loads to prevent negative impacts to company equipment (i.e. substations, transformers, etc.)
Investigates billing inquiries and issues and works with internal departments to reconcile in accordance with regulatory or company policies
Obtains annual electric usage and demand forecast from top tier customers to be used by internal departments for annual and five year forecasts
Manages the coordination and communication of a customer’s energy infrastructure projects to support load growth or operational needs through a wide range of internal departments
With direction reads and interprets company and customer electric and gas engineering design schematics (i.e. commercial and industrial designs, distribution systems, substations, etc.)
Prepares reports and briefings for a wide range of stakeholders (internal and external) including company and customer senior management and executives
Proactively identifies potential customer situations and manages difficult, sensitive, or confrontational issues to achieve mutually successful outcomes with minimal supervision
Maintains confidentiality of economic project and customer expansion details with internal and external stakeholders
Interacts with economic development community partners and consultants in business growth, research and other economic development activities
Provides electric and gas outage response support and restoration support efforts as needed
Represents the company as an advisor with associations, boards, foundations and other entities
Researches utility and economic development best practices and industry trends
Performs other duties as assigned by management
Work Conditions Normal office environment with some outside field work; Exposure to a wide variety of field and industrial environments; Available to provide support 24 x 7 service to industrial and commercial customers; Limited overnight travel is required but must be able to travel throughout the company’s Kentucky and Virginia service territory
Physical Effort Primarily sitting when in office; Frequent standing and walking required when visiting customer facilities or attending conferences to include climbing stairs, walking over uneven ground, work within wide range of temperatures (indoors and outdoors) and a variety of industrial and commercial work environments throughout the company’s Kentucky and Virginia service territory.
