Oglethorpe Power Material Management Specialist I/Material Management Specialist II in Monroe, Georgia

Material Management Specialist I

  • Support various plants in the area of receiving, storing, staging & shipping material as needed to support ongoing Plant Operations planned outages, unplanned outages & maintenance activities at the various sites.

  • Maintain accurate records of inventory incoming, outgoing, receipts, transfers & bin movement (both in the Maximo system and all hardcopy records).

  • Maintain clean and orderly warehouse facilities that comply with good business practices and all safety regulations.

  • Perform quarterly cycle counts and participate in annual inventories.

  • Work with each plant's material specialist, inventory champion, plant personnel and on-site plant management to insure accuracy of materials received, put away, issued and/or returned.

  • Support Supply Chain in recycling & investment recovery activities.

  • Purchase inventory, materials, supplies, parts and equipment and minor services from qualified and available resources at the best value consistent with Corporate/ Supply Chain Services policies for OPC power plant facilities.

  • Identifies potential new suppliers for materials and minor services.

    Job Duties:

    MATERIALS AND WAREHOUSING

  • Issue, return, receive, unload, inspect, label, store, stage, load and ship materials. .

  • Maintain accurate inventory records and provide reports as requested .

  • Dust, clean and maintain warehouse and storage areas to comply with good business practices and safety regulations .

  • Prepare for and perform full Annual Inventories, Quarterly Cycle Count inventories and report on activities associated with these inventories. .

  • Work with plants to manage creation of new item masters in materials database. .

  • Support department investment recovery effort.

    PURCHASING

  • Source materials requested and emergent needs and provide details to requesters. .

  • Purchase materials and be actively involved with purchase & delivery until material is received, invoices paid and purchase order closed.

  • Attend necessary trade shows and meet with vendors to receive product and service informational materials.

    DEPARTMENTAL

  • Attend and participate in scheduled training, departmental & safety meetings.

  • Become Maximo-Supply Chain Subject Matter Expert. (Ongoing)

  • Maintain good working relationship with department and plant staff.(Ongoing)

    Required Qualifications:

    Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor's degree in business or technology related field preferred

    Five (5) years of warehouse experience & at least one (1) year's purchasing experience in utility, generation, transmission, distribution industry

    Equivalent Experience: Seven (7) years of warehouse experience & at least one (1) year's purchasing experience in non-utility, generation, transmission, distribution industry.

    Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: Valid driver's license that meets the insurance eligibility requirements under Oglethorpe Power's Driver Qualification Program.

    Forklift certification required

    Specialized Skills (e.g., typing, computers, software, tools and equipment uses, etc.):

  • Proficient Word, Excel, Outlook & SharePoint skills

  • Basic math skills

  • Ability to perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds required

  • Ability to comprehend instruction from technical manuals, journals, technical literature, drawings, and other job related resources is required and the ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms

  • Ability to operate motorized material handling equipment

  • Some knowledge of safety procedures for handling hazardous materials.

  • Decision making capabilities

  • Working knowledge in materials logistics.

  • Maximo software experience desired.

  • Familiarity with Inventory Management tools.

  • Must be able to handle emergency calls from plant personnel at all hours of the day or night.

    Material Management Specialist II

  • Purchases inventory, materials, supplies, parts and equipment and minor services from qualified and available resources at the best value consistent with Corporate/ Supply Chain Services policies for OPC power plant facilities.

  • Identifies potential new suppliers for materials and minor services.

  • Review requests for new vendors, request bids to support plant buying, evaluate quotations, and recommend final award.

  • Manage Warehouse(s) at plants by supporting plants in the area of receiving, storing, staging & shipping material as needed to support ongoing Plant Operations planned outages, unplanned outages & maintenance activities at the various sites.

  • Maintain accurate records of inventory incoming, outgoing, receipts, transfers & bin movement (both in the Maximo system and all hardcopy records) by performing materials control, receiving, and storage of plant materials.

  • Manage Inventory levels and data in database to prevent stock-outs.

  • Support Supply Chain in recycling & investment recovery activities.

  • Take action on quarterly cycle counts and participate in annual inventories.

  • Work with each plant's inventory champion, plant personnel and on-site plant management to insure accuracy of materials received, put away, issued and/or returned.

    Required Qualifications:

    Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor's degree in business or technology related field preferred

    Experience: Eight (8) years' experience in purchasing of commodities and services and materials management, including experience in warehousing, purchasing, and inventory planning and control.

    Equivalent Experience: An Associate's Degree in a related discipline, with six (6) years of progressive responsibilities in purchasing and materials management.

    Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: Valid driver's license that meets the insurance eligibility requirements under Oglethorpe Power's Driver Qualification Program.

    Certified Purchasing Manager Certification (CPM) or Certified Professional Supply Chain Manager Certification (CPSM) preferred
