MYR Group Safety Specialist I or II (T&D) in Minneapolis, Minnesota

ABOUT THE ROLE

Safety Specialists work closely with field staff, clients and subcontractors, all levels of management, and personnel from external organizations during all phases of electric construction projects. Safety Specialists must be committed to ensuring adherence to safety-related policies, procedures, and regulations while developing positive professional relationships. This is a location-based position with potential for travel up to 75%.

Essential Functions

  • Perform ongoing site visits to observe and document safety behaviors and work conditions to ensure a safety focus throughout all phases of electric construction projects

  • Coordinate with Operations teams to create site-specific safety plans; actively participate in safety meetings to review job hazard analysis and hazard recognition tools

  • Participate in project kick off and progress meetings

  • Supporting client-specific safety requirements programs and ensure alignment and compliance between client expectations, company rules, and applicable safety regulations

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to environmental protection or occupational health and safety

  • Coach and mentor project site personnel regarding safety practices and behaviors on an ongoing basis

  • Conduct proactive behavior-based and quality-focused field safety observations and PPE hazard assessments

  • Partner with Safety, Safety Training & Operations teams to schedule or facilitate required employee trainings: New hire orientation, OSHA ETD Quarterly refresher training, Customer required training, Post-incident training as part of a Corrective Action Plan, and Participate in site-specific safety planning.

  • Conduct accident/injury investigations including root cause analyses

  • Provide support to Operations organization for incident case management and documentation steps

  • Follow-up with Operations organization to ensure completion of corrective actions for all accidents and incidents

  • Support company safety committees by assisting in assessment of safety performance trends, implementing process, and tool improvements

  • Regular and predictable attendance

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Essential functions of this position are to be performance at a Company-designated office or field location

  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards.

ABOUT YOU

Qualifications (Level I)

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) field roles is required

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required

  • Minimum of one (1) safety certification is preferred, examples include: Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Specialist in Safety and Health (SSH), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

  • Undergraduate degree in Safety Management or related field preferred; combination of relevant experience and education considered in lieu of degree

Qualifications (Level II)

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) field roles - required

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent - required

  • Minimum of one (1) safety certification is preferred, examples include: Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Specialist in Safety and Health (SSH), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

  • Undergraduate degree in in Occupational Safety & Health Management, Ergonomics, Industrial Hygiene or related technical field preferred; combination of relevant experience and education considered in lieu of degree

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Problem-solving and situation analysis skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite programs, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to influence behavior

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of OSHA and other industry-related safety regulations

  • Must be a team player able to work with co-workers, different departments and outside contacts and maintain strong relationships

  • Attentiveness to details

  • Organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently

  • Basic understanding of electric construction project management practices and procedures

  • Ability to travel for job site visits for extended periods of time
