Telecommuting Policy

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these positions may require interns to temporarily work remote within Xcel’s service territory until company protocol dictates that the criteria have been met to return to the office. A plan has been created to officially institute a hybrid work-from-home option that will take effect when it is safe to return to the workplace. The internship program will participate in this new policy. Eligible candidates must therefore live within a commutable distance from our corporate office in downtown Minneapolis, MN.

Position Summary

Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support the Human Resource Technology function as we work to implement a new set of technologies (Workday, UKG and ServiceNow), as well as sustain our existing Success Factors system. Each intern will be relied upon to play a role in achieving department objectives and goals. The program will allow you to apply what you’ve learned in school and further enhance your knowledge through hands on training and provide opportunities to network and learn with others across the Human Resource organization.

Typical intern responsibilities could include but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshoot and respond to internal customers’ requests for assistance with SuccessFactors (recruiting, talent, and compensation-related tickets)

  • Track support requests and generate reports

  • Support documentation of business processes

  • Execute specific SuccessFactors business processes and assist in special projects

  • Support the HCM implementation (testing, researching solutions, developing KBAs and documenting business processes)

This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program

  • Able to commute to the corporate office in Minneapolis, MN.

  • Able to work full-time during the summer

  • Able to commit to a year or longer

  • Critical thinker, detail oriented, customer service and interpersonal skills required

  • Must be self-motivated, have a good learning and technology aptitude, and the ability to work well with others.

  • Excellent written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Human Resource, HR Information Systems, Communications, or related area.

  • Customer support experience

  • Experience with Human Resource systems, Peoplesoft, Taleo, Workday, ServiceNow, UKG, SuccessFactors, Cornerstone

  • Experience working with data; strong Excel skills
