Xcel Energy is seeking a Consultant, Category Manager. (This is a full-time, benefited role.)

Please note:

  • 7+ years of IT sourcing experience, including software and hardware procurement experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience with Spend Analysis, Category Planning, Should Cost modeling is expected for consideration at this level.

  • Strong contract negotiation experience, including RFPs, managing the full contract life cycle, RFQs, etc. is strongly preferred.

During COVID-19 Pandemic this position may require the ability to temporarily work remote within the company service territory until company protocol dictates return to the office criteria has been met. This position can ultimately be based in Denver, CO; Minneapolis, MN; or Amarillo, TX.

Telecommuting Policy: A plan has been created to officially rollout a hybrid work-from-home option that will take effect when it is safe to move forward to return to the workplace. This position will participate in this new policy.

Position Summary

Provides leadership and direction of all sourcing activities for multiple company-wide, broad, complex, and/or mission critical categories that have the highest level of impact on the organization. Responsible for the development and effective execution of sourcing strategy for the most critical categories. Plans for and leads complex competitive sourcing events and other highly complex activities in support of category strategies. Develops effective negotiation strategies and conducts negotiations with the most critical suppliers to achieve category and business objectives. Manages risk mitigation efforts and oversees on-going monitoring activities. Forms and executes contracts with mission critical suppliers. Acts as a technical expert resource for Buyers, Associate Category Managers and Category Managers.

Essential Responsibilities

1) STRATEGIC SOURCING –Conceives and leads the development and implementation of numerous major category strategies to optimize cost and improve operations. In conjunction with logistics personnel, implements optimal inventory strategies. Conducts analyses of supply, demand, market, commodity, supplier, contract and “should cost” modeling to determine category strategies. Monitors industry information and trends, and supplier risk profiles, to keep category strategy current while supporting business requirements. Develops complex sourcing event strategies that others will execute.

2) SUPPLIER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT – Leads tier I supplier relationship management efforts for multiple, most critical suppliers focused on improving total cost of ownership, quality, delivery and continuous improvement. Optimizes relationships to benefit both the company and the supplier. Maintains awareness of supplier innovations and incorporates them into sourcing strategy. Establishes key performance indicators and metrics, and monitors, documents and evaluates supplier performance.

3) CONTRACTING – Leads negotiations to establish contracts that support category strategies while meeting business area requirements. Reviews, analyzes, verifies and negotiates contract changes or additional work orders Leads the resolution of disputes with suppliers and manages contractor claims to resolution while minimizing the overall impact to cost and schedule. Ensures suppliers comply with contract terms and meet all commitments.

4) RISK CONTAINMENT – Applies understanding of underlying principles of contract law to administer all category contract agreements. In collaboration with business area management, manages and defines the risk elements of the contract and assembles all necessary documentation for obtaining insurance. Limits Xcel Energy liability by ensuring all required documents and notices have been obtained and are satisfactory.

5) MENTORING – Provides expert guidance and oversight to and collaborates with the supply chain team to build category and sourcing strategies. Offers and implements new ideas and process to improve Supply Chain delivery. Mentors associate category managers, category managers and other sourcing resources in category management, sourcing event management, supplier relationship, risk containment and project management.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Project Management, Business, Finance or related field is required.

  • MBA preferred.

  • A combination of 8 years of Supply Chain experience and industry experience including category management, supplier relationship management, sourcing and contract management expertise.

  • A combination of 5 plus years of experience directly leading complex contact negotiations & project management.

  • Must possess and maintain Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) certification or equivalent.

  • Proven high level written and verbal communication skills, proficient in the use of Microsoft® Office suite and significant experience with purchasing and sourcing systems is required.

  • Frequently required to attend meetings in several different locations, and up to 20% domestic travel is required. Selection criteria may include testing and/or assessment.

Preferred

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $82,700 to $117,566 per year
