Job Summary

A Project Engineer (Engineer II or Nuclear Engineer III) is needed to support the Subsequent License Renewal (SLR) effort at North Anna Power Station with a mechanical and/or civil engineering background to support medium to large capital projects through engineering, procurement, contract management, planning, construction, and closeout. SLR projects perform major modifications, replacements, and upgrades to existing nuclear power plant structures, systems, and components.

The position will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and providing project and technical input to engineering design changes, specifications, calculations, analysis, research, supplier documents, and contract documents.

  • Performing and/or reviewing engineering calculations, analysis, research and design.

  • Providing cost analysis as needed and developing recommendations based on calculations (e.g. cost for equipment upgrade) for management review.

  • Under direction of a SLR Engineering Supervisor, exercising independence in evaluating, selecting and applying standard or well-defined engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. May be required to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to major projects that have significant impact on the SLR programs in varied areas and related fields.

  • Second or third- level position in the engineering progression series that provides engineering support in designated company area, or specific engineering activities supporting SLR Projects.

  • Serves as a team technical lead in coordinating and also performing and/or reviewing engineering calculations, analysis, Specifications and Engineering Changes (EC). Specific experience performing detailed owner’s reviews of engineering products prepared by third parties.

  • Uses independent judgment in prioritizing and making moderately complex adaptations and modifications

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Engineer II

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three (3) years of engineering experience

Nuclear Engineer III

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of five (5) years of engineering experience

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for both roles:

  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team technical lead. Provide guidance to less experienced engineers.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing). This includes the ability to communicate project details to individuals of varying technical backgrounds and to present and obtain approvals from station management, funding, and executive review committees.

  • Strong personal computer skills and ability to navigate company libraries, document systems, and databases.

  • Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.

  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.

  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices.

  • Equally effective working independently or in team environment.

  • Proven decision-making skills.

  • Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.

  • Strong planning, organizational and project management skills.

Education Requirements

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a postgraduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Depending on functional responsibilities and location of position must review ANS 3.1 12/79, ANSI N18.1-1971 or ANSI/ANS 3.1-1993 and DOM-QA-1 as appropriate.
