About the Graduate Development Program
National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) (https://careers.nationalgridus.com/graduate-development-program) is an in-depth training and development program for high achieving recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth Orientation which gives you exposure to all part of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, Graduates begin working in their hired position and take part ongoing development activities through your first year including monthly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Capstone Project at the completion of your first year with National Grid.
National Grid is aiming for an in-person GDP experience for Summer 2022. However, we will continue to monitor the impacts of COVID-19 and will shift to a virtual program if necessary, in order to honor our commitment to our young talent pipeline.
About the Position
To enable National Grid to build and maintain a safe, reliable and robust gas transmission and distribution system and optimize the return on investment from assets related to gas pressure regulation which includes over 575 pressure regulating stations, 17 custody transfer stations, 1000 remote data acquisition terminals (RTU's), and 74 natural gas heaters located in Downstate New York.
Support the construction and commissioning of new assets within the terminal identifying the requirement to replace/upgrade existing equipment as well as the provision of technical support.
Contribute to the development, review and update of operational and environmental plans and procedures to ensure safe and cost effective operation of plant and equipment.
Work towards eliminating all accidents by adopting risk assessment techniques, method statements and being aware of potential hazards and reporting all near misses.
Identify and formulate strategic objectives specific to gas pressure regulation andidentify and employ technical innovation in order to drive change, improve reliability, manage risk, meetregulatory obligations and deliver customer satisfaction at optimum cost
Design work plans in a non-geographically based group to ensure effective use of resources andeffective solutions for internal customers
Develop risk based capital plans for National Grid pressure regulating stations, natural gas heaters, andsystem automation equipment performance in the medium term (up to five years) including estimates tolevel 1 accuracy
Develop capital rate plans and deliver them to regulatory agencies including New York Public ServiceCommission.
Deliver work scopes for projects to upgrade or replace assets within the portfolio
Work closely with Project Management, Resource Planning, and Complex Construction to ensure thatwork plans are delivered on time and on budget
Provide technical support for the Instrument & Regulator department to solve problems related toequipment design and maintenance
Coordinate field work and investigation to evaluate asset conditions and works closely with Instrumentand Regulation in development of the asset management programs
Review and improve existing design and maintenance standards and specifications
Make recommendations for program improvements
Manage budget for PRE NY Capital plans
Participate in process safety reviews as required for new pressure regulating assets and modificationswith respect to siting, design, and operational risks
Attend Bi-weekly Engineering Process Safety meetings
Complete action items, training, and other key performance indicators related to the team’sperformance
Meet with key external stakeholders as required – Pipeline Companies, Regulatory Agencies
Work with other functional leaders in National Grid to drive consistency and sharing of best practice inengineering and asset management for Gas Distribution.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited institution in engineering
Graduated between May 2021 and June 2022
Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program May 31, 2022 or June 27, 2022
Valid US driver’s license
Proven leadership experience
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
