Brief Posting Description

Responsible for coordination of coal shipping, coal cleaning, coal quality, drill & blasting, rock crusher, road projects, reclamation and environmental compliance activities.


  • Promote a safety culture and work environment that supports the goal of zero incidents.Provide safety expectations and goals for direct reports while building a culture of accountability.

  • Ensure mine plans related to coal shipping, coal quality, and drill & blast are met in the areas of safety, compliance, quality and efficiency.

  • Develop and deliver performance reviews for Coal Plant and Day Shift Crew supervisors.

  • Assess training needs and schedule appropriate training for assigned staff.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of production programs, procedures, goals, and objectives for assigned area(s).

  • Responsible for oversight and monitoring of performance in coal haulage/shipping, coal quality, drill & blast, and other Day shift crew activities to identify and manage bottlenecks, functional capability gaps and constraints in these processes and ensure that actions are in place to deliver results consistent with the department dashboard key performance indicators (KPI) metrics.

  • Provide input and support to the Mine Manager for the development of the Mine Plan and support the efficient and accurate execution of the Plan.

  • Implement changes as needed to ensure continuous improvement in the areas of coal extraction/haulage, drill & blast, and reclamation

  • Facilitate and lead in continuous process improvement initiatives.

  • When making decisions or changes, work with other departments to manage the impact of decisions or changes on them.

  • Identify risks that could prevent successful completion of department goals. Assess the potential impact and take action to mitigate the risk.

  • Monitor vendor agreements and performance to ensure service level standards are maintained and that all operational expenses are consistent with contractual obligations.

  • Maintain an open dialogue and two-way communication throughout the organization.

  • Clearly communicate performance standards and expectations.

  • Promote and support planned maintenance/condition monitoring program and coordinate priority of operations maintenance requests.

  • Maintain records and participate in any additional activities to accomplish the duties of the position.

  • Adhere to and demonstrate compliance with appropriate electric utility industry regulatory requirements.Attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of development in regulations, laws, standards and best practices applicable to the functional area including, but not limited to, Standards of Conduct, Environmental, Employment Law, NERC Reliability Standards and Safety.Must be familiar with, and comply with, all aspects of Corporate Policy C-54, Compliance.

Job Requirements


Education and Training:

High School Diploma or equivalent;

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

  • Ability to work collaboratively and use teamwork to solve problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams safely and personally model leadership and safety behaviors.

  • Strong background with experience in dragline, truck/shovel, hydraulic excavator and front-end loader mining systems.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, state and consensus adopted and promulgated safety and occupational health laws, regulations, standards, and practices.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Proficiency with Microsoft, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook is a must.Ability to research safety and health information is required.

  • Ability to administer and coordinate training, and maintain training records, using a learning management system.

  • Ability to consistently meet targeted results.

  • Willingness and ability to continuously maintain and improve knowledge and skills through continuing education and participation in professional organizations and meetings.

  • Skills and abilities needed to design, facilitate, and coordinate projects and teams.

  • Skills and abilities in time management, meeting deadlines, ensuring the accuracy and quality of work, and demonstrated continuous productivity in work experience.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships and resolve disputes.


  • Five (5) years of demonstrated leadership and/or engineering ability with dragline, truck/ shovel, drill and blast operations required.

  • Surface multi-seam, steep pitching coal mining experience, preferred.


  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

  • Must be able to demonstrate that he/she can perform all of the essential functions of the position.


Bachelor's degree in Engineering Discipline or Construction Management.
